Department Overview:

Health Information Technology & Services (HITS) plays an integral role in the success of Michigan Medicine by providing clinicians, educators, researchers, students, and staff with exceptional technology-related information, products, services, and support. HITS also provides institutional expertise related to IT strategy, security, infrastructure, and resource management.

 

Division Overview:

Research Applications and Advanced Computing (RAAC) focuses on supporting the unique and important needs of the Michigan Medicine research enterprise.  We work directly with researchers to understand their IT requirements and provide them with or direct them to the significant information technology resources and services across the university that enable their research.  RAAC includes services associated with research computing, data services, programming and innovation, research devices, engagement and consulting, and application support for the diverse research departments of Michigan Medicine.

Job Summary

The OnCore Clinical Trials Management System (CTMS) Trainer designs and leads OnCore training.  The OnCore Trainer analyzes, designs, and develops training materials (electronic and classroom) for the OnCore CTMS.  This individual will work with the OnCore Application team and the Clinical Trials Support Office to determine training needs and perform all related training development and testing activities. The OnCore Trainer also provides day-to-day support for OnCore End-Users and hosts local User-Group meetings. 

Responsibilities*

Training

  • Determines OnCore training needs for University of Michigan Health System.
  • Works directly with the organization’s subject matter experts to gain information needed to create comprehensive training programs. Designs training content based on adult learning principles. Facilitates stakeholders’ review of the curriculum and associated training materials.
  • Develops and maintains OnCore training materials including (but not limited to) Confluence website, written manuals, e-training materials, and job-aids. Updates documentation to reflect system upgrades or changes. Develops and maintains catalog of training classes on the Learning Management System at University of Michigan.
  • Facilitates training of faculty and staff at all levels on-site and remotely via multiple delivery modes including web conference, e-learning, classroom and blended solutions as necessary using a variety of adult learning and instructional design techniques.
  • Hosts local User Group meetings to strengthen collaborations, share knowledge, and collect feedback.
  • Continuously assesses and evaluates training to determine if training programs are meeting organizational requirements.
  • Leads Work Guides and Training workgroup

System Support

  • Serves as key member of the OnCore Support team.
  • Serves as subject matter expert to OnCore Coordinator and Core Implementation team.
  • Validates authorized end-user OnCore role with training enrollment and completion.
  • Works with support staff to maintain accurate employee training database for account provisioning and credentials management.
  • Participates in System Upgrades User-Acceptance-Testing.

Supervision Received

Direct supervision is received from the OnCore Coordinator and Clinical Trials Application Manager.  This position will work collaboratively with members of the CTMS Team, Calendar Review & Analysis Office, MiChart Research, Clinical Trials Support Units, and Forte Research.

Required Qualifications*

Required Qualifications for the Senior Position: 

  • A Bachelor's degree in information systems, training, education or related field; or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
  • 5-8 years of experience in adult education and instructional design, preferably focused on application training.
  • Experience designing and scripting eLearning lessons and videos.
  • Experience training trainers and end users. Able to effectively deliver scripted training material to groups of varying sizes for four hours or longer and the willingness to adapt to challenging training situations and personalities. Ability to build rapport, engage adult learners and establish an enjoyable learning environment.
  • Strong writing and analytical skills. Demonstrated attention to detail, customer service orientation and proven ability to perform work accurately and efficiently. Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel.

Required Qualifications for Intermediate Position: 

  • A Bachelor's degree in information systems, training, education or related field; or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
  • 2-5 years of experience in adult education and instructional design, preferably focused on application training.
  • Experience designing and scripting eLearning lessons and videos.
  • Experience training end users. Able to effectively deliver scripted training material to groups of varying sizes for four hours or longer and the willingness to adapt to challenging training situations and personalities. Ability to build rapport, engage adult learners and establish an enjoyable learning environment.
  • Strong writing and analytical skills. Demonstrated attention to detail, customer service orientation and proven ability to perform work accurately and efficiently. Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel.

Desired Qualifications*

  • Master’s Degree in Instructional Design or related field.
  • Healthcare IT experience, consulting/project management experience.
  • Experience with Good Clinical Practices (GCP). Experience supporting large Clinical Trial Management Systems. Familiarity with the Clinical Trial lifecycle.
  • Familiarity with using large databases and running queries.
  • Experience creating and editing eLearning/videos using tools such as Captivate, Articulate Storyline and/or Camtasia.
  • Experience in website content organization and management; Experience using Confluence desired
  • Knowledge of change management practices.
