Recruiting /Job Analysis
Working with the Director of HR, other HR Staff and the SSC HR Coordinators, ensure all steps are completed in the regular staff recruiting/hiring process including following a sourcing plan that will warrant a diverse candidate pool and disperse resumes to hiring managers; provide guidance to hiring managers to determine appropriate classification, title, compensation elements of the job posting and appropriate interviewing process to ensure compliance with SEAS and central HR policies and procedures; post job posting in eRecruit, screen applicants, set disposition and prepare job offer and SEAS offer letter.  Collaborate as appropriate with the Shared Services Center (SSC) HR Coordinators to prepare interview schedules and visit itineraries.

Prepare position and compensation information for job/equity analysis requests for HR Director’s review and approval.

Employment/FMLA/Personnel Action Request (PAR):
Prepare new hire and reappointment paperwork for regular staff, Visiting Scholars, Visiting Graduate Student and Post Doctoral Fellows. 

Support the staff leave of absence process by generating forms and letters as necessary, including providing information and interpreting the university’s leave policy and Work Connections/FMLA (medical) paperwork.             

Create and collaborate with the SSC HR Coordinator on requests for PAR transactions involving, DBE, job data changes, additional payments, leave of absence, terminations etc.

Timekeeping/Payroll/People Pay:
Perform central timekeeping functions serving as the school timekeeping resource assisting with correcting and resolving complicated issues with payroll as needed.

In collaboration with SSC manage the processing of non-reimbursement payments to personnel performing services for SEAS with respect to PeoplePay and Additional Pay.

I-9 & Visas / International Center Liaison:  
Serve as the unit I-9 compliance officer per SSC procedures and directives, including communicating I-9 requirements and document expirations to current and new employees, within appropriate timeframes and according to established procedures.

Collaborate with the SSC to prepare and coordinate visa processing for staff, faculty, postdoctoral fellows, and visiting researchers/scholars, which includes coordinating document and information among the individual, faculty, Dean’s Office, and the International Center.

HR Dept Support: 
Administer the SEAS new employee orientation as part of the onboarding process for new faculty, staff, post-doctoral fellows and lecturers. Consistently review process for revisions as necessary for efficiency and changes to SEAS and UM policies.

Assist Director of Human Resources with Business Objects reporting and analysis (leave balances), training, merit process and other HR related projects and administrative duties as needed.  Assist in developing and monitoring HR metrics.

Support Diversity, Equity and Inclusion processes, programs and activities.

Required Qualifications*

  • Bachelor’s Degree and 1-2 years of experience in HR or related area
  • The ability to follow up on concerns in a timely manner, ensuring high levels of customer service and treating sensitive matters with discretion and high confidentiality required
  • Ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, and students
  • Excellent computer and technical skills, particularly with the full range of MS Office Suite
  • Attention to detail as well as sound judgment and the ability to problem solve effectively within appropriate guidelines and parameters
  • Demonstrated excellence in both verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to multitask and adapt to changing demands and priorities with patience and professionalism
  •  A demonstrated commitment to the diversity, equity and inclusion initiative of the school and university

Desired Qualifications*

  • A Bachelor’s degree in HR or related field; three years or more of work experience
  • Professional Human Resource Certification
  • Experience with UM's HR systems, Business Objects, policies, and procedures strongly desired
  • Experience working in a higher education institution
