The College of Education, Health, and Human Services has an exciting new student temporary position opening. One of our Education Mcubed teams is seeking a Research Associate to work with three faculty members on the implementation of art-based education at an alternative public school in Detroit. This Mcube focuses on memorial art and history. Memorials are places where people gather to reflect, commemorate, and grieve. From memorial art, students learn diverse perspectives of history and culture. Interdisciplinary, creative projects on memorials, which require the transfer of knowledge, engage students in the process of historical inquiry. Through lectures, independent research, and museum experiences, this project will engage Detroit high school students in examinations of conflict and courage. The students will design memorial paintings, mosaics, and sculptures for installations at their school and the Holocaust Memorial Center in Farmington Hills. Through the visual and literary arts, the students will raise awareness of the vital importance of intercultural understanding and respect. This Mcube will end on December 31, 2020.
