The Office of Admissions and Orientation seeks a dynamic and motivated individual to serve as a key member of the team which is focused on supporting the enrollment growth goals of the University. The admissions counselor will join a professional, fast-paced, and cohesive team where work feels like a second home. This position professionally represents the University and will be responsible to manage a recruitment territory focusing on the enrollment of undergraduate freshmen and transfer students. Responsibilities include building awareness of the UM-Dearborn brand and conveying the sense of Michigan Excellence and Community upon which we pride ourselves. Recruitment efforts are ongoing and vary throughout the year as focus shifts among the following activities: on and off campus school visits, college fairs and recruitment events; assessment of admission applications; the counseling of prospective students; student engagement activities and overall territory management.

  • Travel for recruitment (during the fall travel is significant and it is moderate in the spring).
  • Manage recruitment territory in targeted geographic areas
  • Conduct relationship building with high school and community college students, and counselors/school officials, within assigned recruitment territory
  • Use a territory management model for strategic enrollment management initiatives
  • Counsel potential students and their families on admission requirements, policies and procedures, transfer of credit, scholarships, basic financial aid concepts and other related issues
  • Perform counselor-on-duty responsibilities for appointments and walk-in traffic
  • Review undergraduate applications and materials to make decisions using established University criteria
  • Prepare detailed assessments and reports on recruitment activities and participate in the development of strategic plans for recruitment and yield
  • Make formal public presentations and/or serve as an official representative of the University at various recruitment visits and events
  • Effectively use Salesforce (customer relationship management tool) and Banner (student information system)
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications*

  • A bachelor’s degree

Desired Qualifications*

  • College Admissions experience
  • Knowledge of Michigan communities
  • Experience in developing and implementing recruitment plans and strategies

Additional Information

40 hours/week

Shift/Hours/Days: Varies based on recruitment cycles.
