Job Summary

As a member of Michigan Medicine's Department of Strategic Planning and Business Development (SPBD), this individual will assist in the development and execution of Michigan Medicine's strategic plans and initiatives, spanning the tripartite mission.  In particular, this individual will focus on conceptualizing designing, building and testing SPBD dashboards across a variety of initiatives, formulating market and data analytics, and cleansing and performing statistical analysis on large data sets to better understand trends and relationships between variables and help formulate insights.  In addition, this individual will work closely with Michigan Medicine's strategic affiliates on cross-organization intiatives to ensure successful and mutually rewarding affiliations.  In this role, this individual will work with the SPBD Directors for Strategic Planning, Business Development, Strategic Implentation, and Business Analytics and Intelligence, all in support of the Chief Strategy Officer and the SPBD Medical Director.

  • Establish processes to continuously monitor data quality and integrity by resolving any data discrepancies and/or reconcile results and communicate database changes to downstream users
  • Design, build, test and maintain stable Tableau dashboards, reports and complex metrics to meet business needs by transforming data into meaningful information
  • Develop market analytics to support all forms of Michigan Medicine strategic plans and initiatives
  • Support development of business plans, pro formas, and feasibility studies to rigorously evaluate promising strategic opportuntities
  • Support execution of affiliations and partnerships, including facilitating various work streams, partnering with other Michigan Medicine stakeholders
  • Support implementation of established strategic plans and tactics, at both the enterprise level for all elements of the mission, and for specific services and programs
  • Support post-closing implementation and operational integration of new affiliates (both hospital and physician group practices) joining Michigan Medicine
  • Assist in supporting strategic planning efforts of Michigan Medicine affiliates, such as Metro Health in Grand Rapids
  • Actively promote a culture of exceptional customer service within SPBD
  • Participate in internal SPBD projects and initiatives aimed at enhancing and ensuring the quality of service provided to Michigan Medicine
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Required Qualifications*

A strong candidate will have the following qualifications

  • Masters degree in Business Administration, Health Services Administration, Computer Science or an equivalent combination of education and experience is necessary, with at least 6 years of health care experience
  • Familiarity with the health care environment and trends
  • Financial acumen and advanced project management capabilities
  • Demonstrated ability to think critically, diagnose challenges, and develop and test hypotheses
  • Ability to communicate, both verbally and in writing, in a clear and concise manner
  • Ability to organize and prioritize in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment with success at simultaneously balancing a variety of complex projects
  • Demonstrated ability to work within a diverse team that seeks to provide excellent client service

In Addition, the ideal candidate will have the following qualitifications

  • Ability to work with internal business partners to understand their business issues and develop reports that analyze data warehouse information to create value-driven data insights, visualizations and applications aligned with strategic priorities
  • Understanding and experience with reporting technologies, relational databases and data modeling
  • Strong technical and communication skills
  • Knowledge of Tableau, Toad Data Point and simple SQL is preferred
  • Ability to conceptualize, design, build and test dashboards to help understand trends and relationships between variables and help formulate insights through visualizations


Additional Information

Physical Requirements

This position requires frequent travel for meetings across the medical campus, administrative sites, and with affiliated systems and organizations.

Supervision Received

This position reports directly to one of the Directors for Strategic Planning, Business Development, Strategic Implementation, or Business Analytics and Intelligence.  To facilitate the professional development of this person, SPBD anticipates this position will periodically change its reporting relationship to a different Director.

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.  Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act.
