Job Summary

SEAS is seeking an experienced professional to work as part of a high-functioning team in the school's Office of Academic Programs (OAP), focusing on graduate student recruitment. Specifically, we seek a driven individual that will help expand SEAS’s recruiting and enrollment efforts to reach a broad audience of both domestic and international prospective students. This professional represents both the University of Michigan and its mission to a broad and diverse audience. They must perform responsibly and professionally while exercising excellent judgment in all interactions with internal and external constituencies. This position reports to the Associate Director of Enrollment Services.

Mission Statement

The School for Environment and Sustainability (SEAS) overarching mission is to contribute to the protection of the Earth's resources and the achievement of a sustainable society. Through research, education, and outreach, the faculty, staff, and students are devoted to generating knowledge and developing policies, techniques, and skills to help practitioners manage and conserve natural resources to meet the full range of human needs on a sustainable basis.



  • Guide prospective students through the application process
  • Participate in and help to plan recruitment activities including, but not limited to: Graduate programs fairs, classroom presentations, meetings with advisors and influencers, conferences and virtual programs/webinars.
  • Develop and deliver presentations for prospective students that clearly articulate the distinct advantages of enrollment both at the University of Michigan and the School for Environment & Sustainability.
  • Maintain contact with prospective students and track their progress through the progressive stages of the recruitment funnel.
  • Plan individual visits to SEAS and meet with prospective students throughout the year.
  • Play an active role in sourcing and generating new populations of prospective students.


  • Maintain and oversee web content and social media related to admissions. Collaborate with SEAS webmaster and communications staff.
  • Download and catalog PhD, MLA, and MS applications.
  • Confer with the Rackham Graduate School on individual students and admissions decisions.
  • Track the progression of applicants through all stages of the review process.
  • Facilitate communication with the admitted class via targeted group and individual communications.
  • Play a central role in organizing the Admitted Student Visit Day Program and other yield programs.
  • Prepare student files for faculty review and keep faculty informed of applicant progress.
  • Provide regular reports to Associate Director of Enrollment Services and the Director of the Office of Academic Programs.

Strategic Planning and Coordination

  • Collaborate across departments (Alumni Relations, Development, Communications, Facilities, Various) on activity supporting the admissions process.
  • Collaborate internally among the Office of Academic Programs (OAP) team to provide resources for prospective students.
  • Support the Associate Director of Enrollment Services by contributing to the formulation and implementation of recruiting strategies and marketing plans
  • Actively work work to strengthen existing relationships and build new relationships that contribute to the greater recruitment effort.
  • Actively participate in emerging trends and professional development in order to both learn from and contribute to the Graduate Enrollment Management (GEM) field.

Data Management

  • Update and run reports within a CRM system.
  • Track and analyze applicant data and use to inform admissions strategies in short and long term projects.
  • Organize and track data on all applicants including admission status, award information, and enrollment status.

Required Qualifications*

  • Commitment to the SEAS mission.
  • Bachelor’s degree and at least two to five years of experience working in higher education, K12 educational organizations, or an equivalent combination of transferable experience (e.g. marketing, recruitment, sales)
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and strong presentation skills.
  • A demonstrated high level of intercultural competency.
  • Outstanding organizational skills and a high level of attention to detail
  • Strong analytical skills, including the ability to organize, analyze and present data.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize work and manage multiple responsibilities within a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
  • Willingness to work some evening and weekends.
  • Willingness to travel and represent both SEAS and the University of Michigan in direct recruitment
  • Dedication to a high level of customer service to both prospective students, other team members within OAP, and members of the SEAS community.

Desired Qualifications*

  • A Master’s degree is strongly preferred or degree in a STEM or Higher Education related field.
  • Work experience in higher education, the environment and sustainability fields or work with environmental issues.
  • 1-3 years experience in recruitment and admissions
  • Experience with MPathways, Google Suite and a CRM such as Salesforce or Slate.
  • Familiarity with University of Michigan policies and procedures.
  • Familiarity with FERPA and other government policies related to higher education
