The Vector Core seeking a full time Research Laboratory Specialist Senior to join the Vector Core Facility to provide gene transfer products and services. We are interested in a highly motivated and organized individual for the production of viral vectors and to assist in generating CRISPR-modified cell lines. The candidate is expected to have extensive knowledge pertaining to these technologies.
We are seeking an individual with extensive experience (8-10 years) in viral vector design and production. The candidate must have familiarity with viral systems including those related to the adeno-associated virus, the immunodeficiency viruses and adenovirus. The individual is expected to have familiarity with the generation of CRISPR edited cell lines. Day to day responsibilities include the purification, and large-scale production and optimization of multiple viral vector systems. Additional responsibilities include performing titer and replication competence assay, designing/performing product quality control tests, data analysis, and maintaining viral stocks and multiple cell lines.
Independent working knowledge and function of recombinant DNA plasmid used for viral vector construction, including design, construction, and verification of nucleic acid sequences, is required. It is essential that the candidate be able to maintain high quality laboratory notebooks, production records and product storage logs as well as have knowledge of scientific software to organize and analyze data. The candidate must be familiar with developing new SOPs, revising existing SOPs, and provide consultation and product development updates to Vector Core staff and external customers.
Good record keeping and customer support is a must. Ability to advise customers from diverse cultural and scientific backgrounds about these viruses and troubleshoot problems is essential. The candidate will also provide supervision and training to students, and other Vector Core staff which will include overseeing and organizing/scheduling undergraduate worker’s duties in order to maintain general supplies and general housekeeping chores.
Master's degree in the field of molecular biology, microbiology, or biochemistry or related health science discipline with at least 8 to 10 years related experience in generating and handling viral vectors. Must be published in a field of specialty and have academic knowledge in a field or discipline. The successful candidate will be enthusiastic about learning new methods and procedures, work well with others, and have excellent communication, interpersonal, organization and time management skills. Attention to detail and the ability to clearly document activities will be critical for the position.
Ph.D degree desired. Significant experience with development of SOP’s and troubleshooting research problems. Strong computer skills including Microsoft office, and DNA related software.
