Responsibilities*

  • Maintain laboratory supplies and ordering, keep records of plasmids & reagents
  • Maintain stocks of microorganisms, cell culture and transfection, immunoblots
  • Molecular biology: PCR, subcloning, sequence analysis, plasmid isolation
  • Cell biology: Cell culture, transfection, develop stable lines, enzyme assay
  • Biochemistry: Express and purify enzymes, enzyme assay, data analysis

Required Qualifications*

Requirements for Research Lab Tech Intermediate:

Bachelor's degree and 1-3 years experience in chemistry, biochemistry, or biology with significant laboratory experience to include basic molecular biology (PCR and plasmid manipulation/subcloning); bacterial and mammalian cell culture; good organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills; proficiency with computer use for laboratory work, including Microsoft Office and graphing programs; flexibility to work on variety of projects and assist others in the laboratory; fluency in spoken and written English; high standards for work quality and ethical conduct of science. Willingness to work independently after introduction is highly desirable.

Requirements for Research Lab Tech Associate:

Bachelor's degree and 0-1 year experience in chemistry, biochemistry, or biology with laboratory experience to include basic molecular biology (PCR and plasmid manipulation/subcloning); bacterial and mammalian cell culture; good organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills; proficiency with computer use for laboratory work, including Microsoft Office and graphing programs; flexibility to work on variety of projects and assist others in the laboratory; fluency in spoken and written English; high standards for work quality and ethical conduct of science. Willingness to work independently after introduction is highly desirable.

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.  Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
