Job Summary

The University of Michigan School of Information seeks qualified individuals as Lecturer III to provide instruction in the Python programming and data science skills and techniques to students in our new Master of Applied Data Science degree as well as in our other academic programs. We expect the applicant to be able to support courses such as data manipulation, exploratory data analysis, data mining, and natural language processing. We seek candidates who are passionate about teaching and using computation and data science to build a better world. Students in the online degree program take four-week classes on the Coursera platform. Each class is facilitated by an instructional team that can include professorial instructors and/or lecturers. Under direction of the instructor of record the successful candidate will serve as front line instructional and student support, and participate in the continuous process of program improvement. This person may be assigned course development duties. Given the online degree program structure, there will be a variety of classes that change from month to month. Course assignments are made in advance giving teaching faculty ample time to prepare. However, these responsibilities will be very fast paced and sometimes evolving quickly.  Thus, it will be critical to have strong organizational skills and the willingness and ability to work in a dynamic environment.
