Performs plasmid cloning, preparation, and analysis.
Performs cell culture based assays including cell passaging, transfection and analysis (such as imaging, genomic or transcriptional analysis).
Performs microscopical analysis of tissue sections including morphometric analysis of histological sections.
Responsible for the maintenance of the mouse colony, including performing routine checks, breeding/weaning, and animal procedures including dynamic metabolic testing.
Generating graphs and analyzing data using computer software assisted methods.
Performs pancreatic islet isolation and hepatic cell isolation from mice.
Performs genotyping with PCR analysis.
Performs multicolor FACS cell sorting of murine cells.
Performs general laboratory organization, maintenance (including cleanliness), record-keeping and ordering laboratory supplies for laboratory.
Skills You Have
The applicant is expected to be able to work well within a research group, be a team player and have excellent communication skills. The individual should also have strong organizational skills and be meticulous in record keeping in hard-copy writing as well as on computer assisted electronic record keeping. The applicant is expected to be willing to learn and acquire the technical kills to perform the duties in the laboratory.
Research Lab Tech Intermediate requirements:
Bachelor's degree in biochemistry, biology, genetics or related field and 1-3 years experience
Research Lab Tech Associate requirements:
Bachelor's degree in biochemistry, biology, genetics or related field and 0-1 year experience
The position is a full time position (8 hours starting at approximately 8:30 am/9am). But biological research requires flexibility in hours, as well as occasional extra hours as required by the particular work/experiments. Occasional weekend work may be required based on the experimental requirements.
The first 6 months of new employment at the position are a probationary period.
This position may be underfilled at a lower classification depending on the qualifications of the selected candidate.
This is a one year term limited position with possibility of extension. Extension will be based on the availability of funding and performance.
Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.
