A position is available for a Research Technician Associate in the Department of Pharmacology. The successful candidate will be expected to work under the supervision of the laboratory P.I. and laboratory manager and in conjunction with other lab personnel (graduate students/postdoctoral fellow). The primary responsibilities will be to prepare laboratory reagents and solutions, wash laboratory glassware, perform sterilizations, maintain laboratory supplies/stocks and conduct some ordering. The position will grow to include some supervised molecular biology, cell biology and biochemical work with DNA, proteins, and cultured cells.

B.A. or B.S. degree in an appropriate discipline such as a biological science or chemistry. Prior experience in a research lab is necessary. Molecular and/or biology experience required. Willingness to work with laboratory animals (mice) is essential. Ability to carry out careful experiments and to keep neat, complete, up to date records and carry out key routine tasks on time without reminders is essential. Requires the ability to perform simple mathematical calculations, for example in making solutions and dilutions. Must be able to speak and understand English well, and to follow oral and written instructions exactly.
Ability to work safely, to use common sense, and to exchange information and interact regularly with other laboratory personnel and departmental members. The position may entail prolonged periods of standing or sitting and some lifting. Daily interaction with PI/Faculty member and/or with laboratory manager and laboratory members in directing experiments and occasional contact with administrative staff. Training in and the certification to work with animals and low levels of radioisotopes will be provided and required after the start of employment.
