Enterprise Infrastructure 

The HITS Enterprise Infrastructure division secures, manages, and architects Michigan Medicine data centers, networks, and communication infrastructures. The team is responsible for all Michigan Medicine IT-related technical infrastructure, including data centers and communication facilities; wired, wireless, and in-house cellular networks; spectrum management; communication; complex device management; fiber/wiring plant; hosting; directories, databases, and storage; and continuity of operations institution-wide. The team collaborates with partners across Michigan Medicine to assure the security, stability, reliability, scalability, and economic management of the institution’s technology infrastructure.

Job Summary

The Director, Enterprise Continuity and Data Services will be responsible for leading HITS Continuity and Data Management efforts across Michigan Medicine, continuity and resiliency strategic planning; and coordination of continuity efforts. This position will assist the Senior Director, Enterprise Infrastructure with planning, developing, and recommending short and long-range goals as well as objectives related to Continuity of Operations, Disaster Recovery, Emergency Communication/Management and Data Management strategies.

Responsibilities*

  • Lead the strategy and operational aspects of MM Continuity & Resiliency (C&R) program, including emergency management, emergency communication, disaster recovery, and continuity of operations 
  • Direct the training and development of service providers in the Continuity program which includes disciplines that address the response, recovery, restoration and resilience needs of the entire MM enterprise including but not limited to IT 
  • Work with Information Assurance to coordinate security issues and emergency communication as well as assist with regular assessments of information security risks 
  • Organize efforts to facilitate the coordination the enterprise’s response, recovery and restoration activities in the face of an IT or Technical disaster 
  • Work across the organization to ensure the effectiveness of the Continuity & Resiliency (C&R) program, which would include HITS Senior Leadership, C&R Program Steering Committee, UMHS Emergency Operations, Medical School Emergency Operations, Service Providers, Information Assurance and Corporate Compliance 
  • Interact with ITS, DPS and major MM IT Service Providers on emergency management coordination 
  • Participates in developing the strategy and leads the operational aspects of the continuity of operations of IT, technology and application services throughout Michigan Medicine 
  • Assist with documenting and communicating IT standards, architecture and processes in coordination with governance 
  • Strong background in project management and implementation to leadership 
  • Coordinate across MM Service providers annual exercising and maintenance of department continuity plans in response to MM business operational disruptions 
  • Manages the Database Services team, Enterprise Operations Analyst teams and future teams assigned from the Continuity and Resiliency Program 
  • Manages strategic vendor partner relationships; helps negotiate procurement and service contracts; and reviews existing contracts for potential gaps in continuity requirements 
  • Manages annual operating/capital expenditure budget development and propose strategic investment in continuity 
  • Represents the Health Information Technology and Services unit in various working groups, steering committees and governance bodies 
  • Broad knowledge of communication to large enterprise as an emergency service 
  • Manages day-to-day activities of the teams, which includes assigning and prioritizing tasks/projects, managing and measuring performance through regular performance evaluations, and making hiring decisions. Ensures that the department is staffed with the needed roles and skills

Required Qualifications*

  • Demonstrated ability in managing multiple teams in both a process or technology role
  • Bachelor’s degree in a field related to Information Technology or related to healthcare with a minimum of 10 years overall relevant experience
  • Strong project management and presentation skills
  • Demonstrated professional experience managing and maturing a continuity program to ensure continuance of critical business functions and associated processes, systems and applications
  • Knowledge of Continuity of Operations standards/processes, Data services technologies and Cloud technology
  • Demonstrated success in building teams and leading that team to accomplish its goals
  • Ability to simultaneously manage multiple, complex projects and enterprise efforts
  • Demonstrated ability to envision and operationalize new project and strategic planning
  • Proven ability to be successful and work well with other leaders in a changing and ambiguous environment
  • Ability to interact with non-IT groups including steering committees and senior non-IT executives

Desired Qualifications*

  • MS/MA or higher degree in computer sciences, or information/data management preferred
  • Experience with large health record vendor, Epic systems preferred
  • Experience in a 24/7 high availability and multi-site enterprise infrastructure solutions
  • Experience in the implementation of a continuity program across a large health care organization

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.  Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act.
