About Ross Finance
The Ross Finance team is dedicated to providing skilled financial and data analytics support to staff and management throughout Ross. This team excels in partnership, technical financial understanding, problem-solving abilities, initiative, and a commitment to customer service.
This team-focused position within the Finance Department of the Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan works under the direction of a Finance Manager to support school-wide reporting and analysis. Responsibilities will include serving as a technical expert for our team, analysis to drive School projections, creating new management reports, ad hoc analysis, and using your creativity to enhance financial tools and processes.

Financial Planning & Analysis:
- Support annual budget process by creating and maintaining budget templates, compiling materials and preparing analyses as necessary, researching questions and issues as they arise, and completing special projects as assigned.
- Develop, refine, and maintain proformas, which are reliant on tuition and enrollment modeling, basic statistical concepts, and incorporate significant levels of financial detail.
- Work with complex data sets, synthesizing and summarizing results to allow for the identification of key issues, decision-making criteria, and the determination of strategies.
- Participate in teams evaluating strategic, operational and financial aspects of the academic enterprise
- Develop and prepare monthly and quarterly management financial reports. Partner with Ross Finance team to improve reporting formats and standard reports for a variety of audience levels using tools as needed such as Excel, Business Objects, M-Reports, or other systems.
- Create new reports as directed to summarize financial data
- Prepare budget variance reports to assist both the unit and the leadership team in interpreting financial performance against budget
- Proactively identify financial information needs of the units and the School and design solutions.
- Troubleshoot existing financial reporting to answer questions or ensure the reports are functioning as designed.
- Prepare reports, presentations and correspondence related to financial project work, financial analysis, and department and unit performance assessment
- Design, develop and recommend new approaches, methodologies and tools for data driven decision making and planning
- Participate in the design and implementation of financial strategic resource allocation methodologies regarding the Ross School Innovation and Investment Process
- Participate in special projects to improve reporting, analysis, and internal processes to achieve productivity improvements and customer service delivery
- Support annual Internal Controls Certification process as needed
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Three to five years of progressive experience with financial reporting and analysis
- Extensive knowledge and experience working with financial systems and spreadsheets using advanced Excel functions
- Demonstrated excellent organizational, critical thinking, and analytical skills
- Demonstrated ability to communicate well, both orally and in writing, and to work collaboratively with others
- Ability to work independently and to exercise initiative
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects with tight deadlines and consistently meet deadlines
- Ability to work effectively in a dynamic environment with multiple and sometimes conflicting priorities
- Team-oriented, flexible and customer-service oriented manner
- Significant experience developing reports using Business Objects or similar data retrieval and reporting tool, including troubleshooting and report-writing
- A working knowledge of the University including M-Pathways, M-Reports, Business Objects, and University financial processes
Skills testing may be required.

- May require occasional work during early mornings, nights, and/or weekends
