Job Summary

This candidate will work closely with the laboratory PI as well as other research staff with the primary focus of maintaining the Gynecologic Oncology biorepository. The position will entail working with human samples (including human derived cell lines), cell culture and mouse studies.

Research Methods – in vitro:
  • Maintain and update standard operating protocols (SOP) for the processing of primary patient samples including tissue, blood, ascites / pleural fluid, and urine
  • Rigorous documentation of samples processed and stored
  • Process primary patient samples including tissue, blood, ascites / pleural fluid, and urine
  • Establish cell lines from primary patient samples
  • Perform characterization / analysis of samples
  • Distribute and track samples to collaborators located across the University campus and for off-site storage
Research Methods – in vivo:
  • Collaborative participation in all aspects patient derived xenograft (PDX) animal model system including tumor implantation, monitoring, and serial passaging
  • Rigorous documentation of PDX samples
Other functions as required by the PI:
  • Attend weekly laboratory meetings with at least 50% attendance
  • Attend monthly departmental biorepository meetings with at least 50% attendance
  • Monthly summary report to PI of specimens processed, analyzed, and stored
Research Design:
  • With study team, develop, design, and conduct research according to plans & protocols
  • Formulate research methods and suggests options for improvement

Required Qualifications*

  • Bachelors degree in a science related field
  • At least 1 year of experience working in a research lab setting
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently as well and collaboratively with a unit
  • Eagerness to learn new methods
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail

Desired Qualifications*

  • Master’s degree or higher in science or healthcare related field
  • 3 years of experience working in a research lab setting
  • Experience with primary cell and cell line culture
  • Experience with mouse handling and experimentation
