The Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Pulmonary Medicine and Critical Care is seeking a highly motivated individual to join our team as a Research Tech. This person will be involved in an exciting and impactful study seeking an effective vaccine for COVID-19.

Responsibilities*

Performs basic specimen processing and shipping for study specific protocols.

Ensure proper labeling and documentation of specimens for study specific protocols.

Performs basic sample management data entry

Complete and maintain all lab specific certifications.

Provides a wide variety of moderately complex to complex technical lab support for the Michigan Clinical Research Unit.

Monitor/analyze work flows and provide work flow solutions/troubleshooting.

Troubleshoot study team problems with collections, kits and/or specimen issues

Assist with quality control of research specimens.

Assist in maintaining lab equipment.

Other duties as assigned .

 

Required Qualifications*

 Associate Level:
• Associates degree in a health-related discipline or equivalent experience in chemistry, biology, or a related health science.
• Effective communication skills using both written and spoken English are critical

• Intermediate Level:
• Bachelor’s degree in a health-related discipline
• One or more years of experience working in a research lab base setting.
• Effective communication skills using both written and spoken English are critical

This position may be underfilled at a lower classification depending on the qualifications of the selected candidate.

Additional Information

This is a one-year term limited position, with the possibility of extension.  Extension will be based on the availability of funding and performance.

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.  Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
