Mission Statement

The successful applicant will provide moderately complex technical laboratory support for a research faculty member.  The technician will assist design, perform and interpret a broad range of experiments, using basic molecular biology techniques including cell culture, ELISA, immunoblotting, immunocytochemistry, PCR, real-time PCR analysis, animal handling, small animal surgery and tissue sectioning.  Participation in lab meetings and presenting data are expected.

Required Qualifications*

High School Diploma or Associate's Degree

1-3 years of laboratory experience

Desired Qualifications*

Bachelor's level degree in the biological sciences and at least one year's experience in molecular biology and cell culture laboratory techniques are preferred. One to two years of previous experience in clinical and bench research are preferred. A successful candidate will be highly motivated, enthusiastic, and inquisitive, with good organizational and communication skills. A candidate should also have a willingness to learn new techniques. The candidate must work effectively in a team setting, be able to communicate well, and keep clear records. In addition to the above laboratory skills, applicants should be able to input and analyze data using common software programs for PC-based computers.

Requires the academic knowledge of a health science discipline such as microbiology, biochemistry, anatomy, pathology or medical technology, plus the ability to translate, adapt and apply this knowledge.  This is generally associated with a Bachelor’s degree, supplemented by one or more years of progressively responsible experience in the conduct of health science research, or an equivalent combination of health science education and experience.

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.  Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
