The emphasis of this research position is on the recruitment and scheduling of participants, administration of neuropsychological (cognitive) tests and non-invasive brain stimulation, and data entry for research studies that examine the effects of non-pharmacologic treatment for memory deficits in older adults.  The successful candidate is expected to perform medical record reviews in order to determine participant eligibility, contribute to scheduling participants for study activities, and closely monitor participation to ensure regulatory compliance. The detail-oriented candidate must be able to operate in a semi-independent manner. It is expected that the successful candidate will be able to assist with the creation of posters, papers, and presentations for scientific meetings as well as to perform other scientific administration (including regulatory and compliance) and clerical activities in order to support research projects, as directed by the Principal Investigator.  Experience working with an older adult population and those with cognitive deficits arising from neurodegenerative disease is preferred. Experience with non-pharmacologic interventions is also preferred. Individuals with neuroimaging experience (e.g., data analysis) are strongly encouraged to apply.

Required Qualifications*

  • Bachelor’s degree in social science or a health science discipline or equivalent education and experience
  • Ability to multi-task and sustain a high level of organization while working with several research studies
  • Available to work some evenings/weekends
  • Available to independently travel to, and work in, multiple locations
  • Computer proficiency (e.g., Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point; EndNote)
  • Confident and highly motivated with excellent multi-tasking ability and record-keeping skills
  • Outstanding organizational skills with meticulous attention to detail
  • Professional demeanor and excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Proven ability to work relatively independently
  • Knowledge of or experience with database creation, management, and analysis procedures is expected
  • Ability to work with diverse teams of people in a diplomatic, collaborative, and effective manner
  • Ability to meet deadlines, problem-solve, and prioritize duties
  • Must be willing to flex weekly hours in order to accommodate evening and weekend schedules

Desired Qualifications*

  • Proficiency in neuropsychological test administration and scoring is preferred
  • Experience working with older adults and those with dementia
  • Research experience with investigator-initiated and federal sponsored trials
  • Experience working and interacting with research participants
  • Strong clinical skills and superior verbal and written communication are desired
  • Experience with Electronic Data Entry in ReDCap or other similar databases
  • Demonstrated knowledge of clinical trial regulations and operations
  • Demonstrated understanding of Good Clinical Practice and HIPAA
  • A working knowledge of medical terminology and assessment of laboratory values
  • PEERRS or CITI Program certified
  • Experience with neuroimaging analysis software (e.g., AFNI, FSL, SPM, FreeSurfer) or programming language (e.g., Python)
  • Experience with statistical analysis packages such as SAS, SPSS and or R

Work Schedule

Typically M-F from 8-4:30pm.  Occasional flexibility will be required to accomodate weekend or evening testing.

Under Michigan law, a criminal history check including fingerprinting is required as a condition of transfer or employment for this position.

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.  Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
