Responsibilities*

  • Manages, plans and leads the operational, administrative, budgetary and personnel activities of the Patient Transportation and Entrance Services areas to ensure consistent, efficient and cost effective flow of services throughout the Health System.
  • Responsible to monitor, analyze and manage the Patient Transportation and Entrance Services areas and ensure policies and procedures are being followed.
  • Responsible for the development of all transportation related services which include transportation equipment and/or patients to and from destinations.
  • Responsible for ensuring employee training and compliance in the safe transport of patients and/or equipment, while meeting customer service needs. The primary duty of employees in this classification is the management of a customarily recognized department or subdivision, including the supervision of three or more full-time equivalent employees every week.
  • Management duties include interviewing, selecting and training of employees, planning and directing their work; appraising their productivity and efficiency for the purpose of recommending promotions or other changes in their status; handling their complaints and grievances and disciplining them when necessary.
  • Management responsibilities include the authority to hire, fire, or promote assigned employees or make recommendations that are given particular weight. Employees have impact on budgeting, controlling costs, planning, scheduling, and procedural change.
  • Under FLSA, this is the exempt job classification for this title. Incumbents in this position must meet the full criteria for exempt

Required Qualifications*

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Combination of at least 10 years’ managerial experience in a health care environment, hospitality, or military, with at least 3 consecutive years in the past 5 years.
  • Experience in a large, academic healthcare system with 500+ beds.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated history of developing work schedules.
  • Demonstrated history of improving customer/patient satisfaction.
  • Experience with healthcare computer systems such as Epic, Cerner, and/or TeleTracking.
  • Experience working in a union environment.
  • At least one professional certification in Healthcare, Environmental Services, Hospitality, etc. or to have or obtain certification within the first year.

Ability to work irregular hours and work in a fast paced environment with established time constraints.
 

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.  Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
