Job Summary

To assist with research activities within the Department of Psychiatry related to Sleep and Circadian Rhythms in various clinical populations. With guidance from faculty and research personnel, the research technician associate will handle organizational and administrative details of assigned projects, including but not limited to screening and collecting information from potential participants according to the research study protocols, conduct interviews in person and via phone calls, conduct epidemiological, social or behavioral assessments, and collect data and/or biological samples from research participants in studies. The associate will also coordinate study visits and follow-up of study participants with some oversight of day-to-day operation of project. The associate may also assist in preparation of progress reports and other summary materials, perform literature searches and copying articles. The potential exists to assist in the preparation of research papers and manuscripts for publication and presentations at conferences and workshops. The associate will work collaboratively and also independently with other team members to fulfill the goals of the project.

Responsibilities*

Telephone activity includes: screening calls for subject recruitment and scheduling potential participants for in-person appointments.

Assisting study coordinator in tracking participant and study progress, monitoring of active participants during laboratory sessions, detailed record-keeping, data entry and verification, filing, collection and processing of biological materials, and other duties as assigned.

Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail is a critical component of this job’s responsibilities. Demonstrated multi-tasking skills and ability to prioritize workload efficiently are essential. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to develop rapport with a diverse pool of research participants with various clinical conditions is absolutely vital. Outstanding written and verbal communication capability is required and expected.

Required Qualifications*

  • The preferred candidate will have a Bachelor's degree with academic knowledge of a health science discipline such as neuroscience, public health, psychology, social work or related behavioral sciences.
  • Excellent organizational skills with keen attention to detail.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to interact productively with other research team members.
  • Excellent computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and willingness to learn and develop additional computer skills related to data management and preparation of data for analysis.

Desired Qualifications*

  • Previous clinical or research experience in a human science field is desired, but not required.

Work Schedule

This is a full time position; 40 hours/week. There may be 2-3 late evening shifts every other week that end as late as 9 PM. On days with no evening shifts, office hours can start later. Thus, availability to work evenings, and weekends when called for under the planned study protocols is required.

Additional Information

This is a 1 year, term-limited appointment with the possibility of extension. If the extension is not granted, the appointment will terminate and will not be eligible for Reduction in Force (RIF) benefits.
