Job Summary

The John Varga Laboratory at the University of Michigan is recruiting a post-doctoral fellow position. The Varga lab is focused on mechanisms underlying fibrosis progression and novel therapeutic approaches. Our goal is that trainees and staff develop both critical, independent thinking skills and proficiency with a variety of state of the art techniques. Good oral and written communication skills and willingness to work in a team environment are essential for this position. Experience with fibrosis research and a background in basic bioinformatics is preferred.

Responsibilities*

Molecular Biology:
• DNA, RNA, Protein isolation, purification and expression 
• Western blottin
• PCR, RT-PCR
• Plasmid preparation
• Recombinant virus production and purification

Cellular Biology:
• Cell culture, cell isolation
• Transfection

Histology:
• Immunohistochemistry 
• Microscopy Fluorescence microscopy (confocal) and bright field microscopy 
   
Immunology:
• Flow cytometry
• ELISA

Animal:
• Prior training in handling animals and rodent animal models (e.g., handling transgenic) is desired
• Dissections
• Blood collection
• Surgical procedures

Required Qualifications*

The position is intended for highly-motivated individuals with Ph.D. with expertise in cell and molecular biology, biochemistry, epigenetics, in vivo/ex vivo work, and statistical analysis.

Background Screening
