Job Summary

The John Varga Laboratory at the University of Michigan is recruiting a research associate position. The Varga lab is focused on mechanisms underlying fibrosis progression and novel therapeutic approaches. Our goal is that trainees and staff develop both critical, independent thinking skills and proficiency with a variety of state of the art techniques. Good oral and written communication skills and willingness to work in a team environment are essential for the position.

Responsibilities*

• Plans, organizes and conducts research both basic science and clinical fields. The research associate participates in design and execution of research lab and lab-related clinical projects. 

• Conducts experimental tests and procedures and processes and analyzes data. 

• Reviews and revises existing research methodologies and may develop new methodologies.

• Writing the experimental reports, and draw figures and graphs suitable for publication.

• Work on human and mouse related protocols, revise and recommends changes to processes, procedures and techniques to improve quality and validity of results based upon overall project objectives.

• Using statistical software to analyze the data.

• Trains and directs other lab members and/or students in research techniques and procedures.

• Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications*

The positions are intended for highly-motivated individuals with successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree in cell/molecular biology or related field; 3 or more years of lab/bench or other relevant experience required.

 

Desired Qualifications*

 Experience with fibrosis research and a background in basic bioinformatics is preferred.

Background Screening
