Applicants must submit a resume with a cover letter that includes:
-availability for the semester for which they are applying
-contact information for a chemistry faculty member that has had them in lab
-how they meet and/or exceed the requirements of the job
Laboratory Prep Attendants work under the direction of the Laboratory Coordinator as well as the faculty and staff of the Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry. The Prep Attendant is responsible for preparing for each lab exercise in their assigned courses with minimal supervision by ensuring that they have all of the necessary equipment, chemical solutions, and consumables. This position also requires performing stockroom inventory counts, maintaining a clean and organized stockroom area, and other duties as needed.
Must be a currently enrolled UM-Flint student
Successful completion of CHM 261 and/or higher level chemistry labs
A demonstrated ability to apply laboratory safety rules, chemical safety, and safety control measures
Experience preparing and/or standardizing chemical solutions
Demonstrated knowledge of laboratory materials, methods, and equipment
Recommendation by a chemistry laboratory instructor and/or staff
Knowledge of the Globally Harmonized System
Experience with updated CHM 261 and 263 curricula and MicroLab instruments
Successful completion of CHM 333 and/or higher level chemistry labs
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Display outstanding attention to detail and organizational skills
