This position is designed to be a shared role between:
- The Center for Healthcare Outcomes and Policy (CHOP), a consortium of health services researchers who gather data, construct patient cohorts and datasets, and analyze clinical and claims data to evaluate the quality, safety, and value of patient care, and
- The Michigan Opioid Prescribing Engagement Network (MIOPEN), a highly successful statewide program designed to identify best practices in opioid prescribing for common surgical procedures, optimize patient care for vulnerable patients, highlight opioid alternatives, and ensure accessible options for safe opioid disposal and storage.
The Clinical Information Analyst will perform statistical programming, analysis, and data management of large administrative claims datasets, and provides technical assistance to these teams. The position will also assist clinicians and other clinical researchers in determining the appropriate analytical methodology to meet their needs, uses various statistical packages, and summarizes and interprets statistical results.

- Clean, recode, reformat raw data from various data sources and construct datasets according to specification provided
- Conduct analyses using administrative claims data to examine trends in healthcare delivery. This will include regression and quasi-experimental analysis techniques.
- Perform statistical programming utilizing a variety of statistical software packages to summarize data and create reports and/or visual presentations
- Design and run quality assurance checks on data and trouble-shoot problems; validate data quality and reasonableness in reports and/or analyses of health services prior to distribution
- Create data reports and methodologic summaries for manuscripts and grants
- Define and help create mechanisms to extract and reorganize data from existing systems
- Document procedures for future reference and may make recommendations for data analysis process improvements
- Minimum of Bachelor's degree in Statistics, Biostatics, Public Health or related field
- Strong, demonstrable programming skills and experience with relational databases, complex data structure, and linkages between data sources
- Experience with Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint for the development of presentation materials
- Proven ability to write clear and concise technical documentation, summaries of various methodologies, and descriptions of statistical results
- Excellent communication, both oral and written in English language, and interpersonal skills are essential
- Ability to prioritize, organize, and efficiently work on multiple projects at the same time
- Working knowledge of epidemiologic concepts and methodology
Intermediate Required Qualifications
• At least 3 years of professional experience in SAS programing and analysis required for placement at the intermediate level
Senior Required Qualifications
• At least 5 years of professional experience in SAS programing and analysis required for placement at the senior level
Note: Examples of your SAS code, reports, or other work product may be requested
- Master's degree in Statistics, Biostatistics, Public Health, Computer Science, or related field.
- SAS certification preferred
- Experience with healthcare claims data.
- Experience with additional statistical software and programming languages and/or the ability and willingness to learn as necessary.
- Experience in directing, managing and analyzing research projects using large administrative and medical databases.
This is a one and a half year term limited position, ending June 30, 2022, the incumbent is not eligible for RIF status.
