To provide in-depth clinical, technical, and clerical support to Cross-sectional interventional radiology service; involving pre procedure, procedure, and post procedure patient care and data entry, as well as assisting the CT technologist in the CT Division. This is a shared role between the Cross-sectional and CT Division.

- Responsible for pre procedure patient preparation including assisting patient into room and filling out pre-procedure patient information forms.
- Set-up room and procedure trays as directed.
- Assist with specimen preparation for Pathology.
- Post procedure clean up as needed.
- Maintain procedure cart inventory.
- Maintain stock in all procedure room and order supplies as needed.
- Obtain procedure requisitions and present to P.A. or physician.
- Check MiChart for patient lab data, history, medications, and allergies. Relay results to P.A. or physician.
- Schedule appointments in MiChart for radiology procedures.
- Check RIS/Radiant/MiChart for previous reports on patients, such as IR, CT’s, MR’s, US’s.
- Return calls to referring services or patients as requested by P.A. or physician.
- Answer pages and coordinate requests from referring services when P.A. is unavailable.
- Fill in supply flow sheet for procedure.
- Enter billing codes for procedures and supplies in RIS/Radiant following procedure if needed.
- Assist technologists performing any and all functions to perform CT examination. Responsibilities include positioning patient for CT, starting IV, lifting, moving, and pushing wheelchairs and stretchers. In addition, PCTA will draw up and administer IV contrast for CT exam. PTCA will also dispense oral contrast for CT exam as needed.
- Customer Service/Support/Communication:
- Exhibit consistent, positive, supportive attitudes, behaviors, and words.
- Communicate in an appropriate tone with patients, co-workers, staff, faculty, and management.
- Address both positive and negative feedback through the appropriate channels.
- Be pleasant, courteous, polite, and helpful to others.
- Provide comfort measures for patients to include provision of blankets, pillows, etc.
- Assist Technologist:
- Help lift/move/position patients as necessary for examinations.
- Monitor patient to ensure patient safety.
- Retrieve supplies/equipment necessary for procedure.
- Understand basic McKesson functions and route images appropriately.
- Remain focused on case until examination is completed.
- Ensure that correct patient is getting correct procedure. Initiate “Time Out” procedure.
- Receive and carry out instructions promptly, accurately, and precisely in regards to patient care and CT Operations.
- Communicate observations/concerns regarding a patient’s condition or safety to the CT technologist.
- Start IV’s when necessary as well as administering x-ray contrast for patients’ CT.
- Must understand radiation safety principles and complete all the necessary Mlearning modules to address this topic.
- Must have a basic understanding of anatomy to know what type of CTs are being performed as to position the patient accordingly.
- RIS Support:
- Proficient with entering patient into Radiant system
- Knows how to arrive, begin and complete study in Radiant.
- Knows how to enter allergy into MiChart system.
- Equipment/Supply Maintenance:
- Report equipment malfunctions to manager/supervisor/charge technologist.
- Clean rooms, positioning aids, and equipment as necessary.
- Stock rooms with linen and necessary supplies.
- Check emergency equipment in each room daily.
- Patient Transportation:
- Transport adult/pediatric patients to/from ER to Radiology for examinations if necessary.
- Communicate with ER staff to assess patient status prior to transporting patient to radiology.
- Clerical Support:
- Answer phones; direct questions to lead technologist.
- Adapt to changing environments (flexible schedules, emergency conditions, protocol development, technology advancements).
- Other duties as required.
- High School graduation or an equivalent combination of education.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Demonstrates critical thinking skills, ingenuity, creativity, professionalism and understand all age appropriate guidelines for communication.
- Must have physical ability to push, pull assist and transfer patients safely from transportation devices to diagnostic table.
- Must display physical dexterity using fine motor skills.
- Medical Terminology
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills

- Basic Anatomy knowledge
- Maintain BLS certification.
- Proficient computer entry skills. Knowledge of medical terminology, aseptic techniques, infection control, universal precautions and safety.
- Some knowledge of radiation safety and BCLS certification.
- Venipuncture experience.
- Two years of patient care or equivalent work experience in medical procedures.
- At least one-year clerical experience in a public setting including computer and data entry skills.
Nights and weekends; every other weekend, and (5) 8 hour shifts during the week.
