Job Summary

Tutor students, faculty, staff, and community members from all disciplines with writing, speaking, and presentations. Fill out client report forms. During down-time or as assigned, assist the director and coordinator with Writing Center research and data collection. Facilitate classroom visits, workshops, and in-class support. Help develop writing and tutoring support materials. Contribute to marketing and educational programs, including: classroom visits, workshops, writing groups, social media, and the website. Assist with Writing Across the Curriculum (WAC). Help with community engagement projects and tutoring. Mentor English 363/563 students during practicum. Assist with and participate in professional development activities. Candidates must also be able to answer phones, use the WC Online scheduling system, greet and assist clients, promote a positive experience for clients and co-workers, help support and maintain daily writing center operations, and other duties as assigned. 

*Facilitate English 109 groups dependent on training and/or experience.


Required Qualifications*

Must be currently enrolled at the University of Michigan-Flint and have successfully completed English 112. Strongly desired qualifications include: completed English 363/563 and/or an equivalent course training, or writing center experience at UM-Flint or another college or university. strong writing, research, communication, presentation, and writing tutor skills.  Ideal candidates will be self-motivated to help maintain daily operations, promote a positive environment for both clients and colleagues, take initiative to learn about and help with other writing center related projects during downtime, and demonstrate a strong ability to work positively with others. Preference will be given to current, degree seeking candidates.
