The Division of Pain Research within the Department of Anesthesiology is hiring a data analyst.

Responsibilities*

  • Develop and implement effective data management procedures, design and create datasets for each study, clean large volumes of cross sectional and longitudinal data, and merge data from a variety of sources and formats.
  • Provide suggestions on adapting alternative methodologies in an effort to improve clinical data collection and management.
  • Work with the research team to assist in the development of analytical and statistical approaches needed to answer specific research questions. Determine the statistical tests/models to be used. Carry out statistical analyses and evaluate results.
  • Provide statistical support and training to research staff as needed.
  • Assist in the preparation of abstracts, manuscripts, and/or grant proposals.

Required Qualifications*

Master's degree plus 5-6 years of data management and/or analysis experience required. Must be capable of a high level of independent work and have the ability to manage data for large research projects.  Must have expertise and demonstrated ability to conduct general linear models including multi-variable regression, logistic regression, multi-level/hierarchical modeling; mixed-effects models; missing data techniques; non-parametric statistics; data transformation; variable selection (LASSO; elastic net).

Advanced statistical training and expertise, including proficiency with SPSS, Stata, SAS, R, and/or MPlus. Demonstrated aptitude for learning new statistical and/or data management software. Excellent interpersonal skills. Proven ability to work collaboratively with a team and meet deadlines in a multi-tasking environment. Experience in technical and research writing required.

Desired Qualifications*

Doctorate degree is preferred. Expertise and demonstrated ability to conduct propensity score analysis, structural equation modeling, dimension reduction (PCA/EFA), and advanced classification models (support vector machine); cluster analyses. Experience with Tableu or other data visualization software. Prior experience in a medical research setting preferred.
