Job Summary

The Biomedical Research Core Facilities Advanced Genomics Core is looking for a skilled research technician to join us full time as a Research Laboratory Specialist. The incumbent will assist in developing, deploying and executing protocols to improve single cell and spatial operations in the Advanced Genomics Core.

Responsibilities*

Perform complex laboratory experiments for spatial transcriptomics on animal and human tissue material using the 10X Genomics Visium and Nanostring GeoMx platforms, expanding to additional related platforms in the future. Responsibilities include embedding, sectioning and staining frozen or fixed tissue, assay processing, library generation, and final library quality control. Tasks may include but are not limited to inventory management, quality control tracking, efficiency enhancement, and onboarding other new technologies.

Process single cell and single nuclei suspensions provided by clients using the 10X Genomics Chromium instrument, expanding to additional related platforms in the future. Assure that samples meet core requirements for sample processing. Responsibilities include recovering cryopreserved cells, cell viability assessment, cell/nuclei counting, assay processing, library generation, and final library quality control.

Communicate with clients regarding sample quality and assay parameters. Document client requests and sample performance. Communicate with other core facilities relevant to the analysis of spatial and single-cell specimens, including the Flow Core, Tissue Core and others. Communicate with the Scientific Manager of the Spatial Analysis Program to help ensure specimen and data routing and related tasks.

 

Required Qualifications*

A bachelor’s degree in biochemistry, cell biology, molecular biology or related biomedical field. A minimum of 2-3 years of experience with histology (frozen and FFPE), cell or tissue microscopy, fluorescent and stained section imaging, with basic molecular biology skills.   A successful candidate must have hands on experience in tissue handling and cell processing. Proficiency and comfort with computer-based operation is a requirement of the position, including standard office software (MS Word, MS Excel). Must be meticulous at the lab bench and with record keeping skills. The ability to work independently and as part of a team in a diverse environment while under pressure to produce results in a timely manner is required. Excellent written and spoken communication skills.  

Desired Qualifications*

Experience in wet-lab with immunohistochemistry and in situ hybridization is desired.
