Job Summary

The Institutional Research and Effectiveness Business Intelligence Analyst Senior supports campus-wide efforts to create, maintain, and improve a data-driven environment by providing accurate and relevant business intelligence with the sole purpose to inform and support student success and their corresponding initiatives.  The IR Analyst will work with Deans, Department Chairs and faculty to create reports that inform and support student success initiatives.  They will collaborate with requestors to assure integrity, transparency and availability of data. The Analyst creates and maintains reports using the WebFOCUS enterprise business intelligence tool.

Responsibilities*

  • Support the efforts of the Strategic Plan with required advanced analytics and data for decision-making

  • Provide data, research, and information to inform and support student learning interventions and initiatives

  • Present information to the campus community on the state of learning to include:

    • Identify and measure student milestones and track progress at each

    • Course taking patterns that lead to success

    • Studies on various student populations (undergraduate, graduate, at-risk, etc.)

    • Studies on the effectiveness of various modalities as they relate to student success

    • Assist in the evaluation of student success initiatives

    • Success in courses and programs

    • Retention and completion of programs

  • Identify at what points and why students leave the University

  • Collaborate with campus stakeholders on requests for data/information for accreditation, enrollment, other requests as they relate to specific programs and their intended outcomes

  • Provide boilerplate information that can be used in grant applications that support student success

  • Collect, analyze, and present data as meaningful information.

  • Maintain data confidentiality and observe all FERPA regulations.

  • Adhere to official definitions and Office of Institutional Research and Effectiveness standards in report development.

  • Maintain and document all new and existing report specifications.

  • Present information in a clear, concise and understandable format.

  • Work closely with customers to gain an understanding of business processes and rules to facilitate accurate and manageable reporting.

  • Develops and implements research projects, including selecting appropriate research designs, collecting and analyzing data, preparing narrative reports and presenting research results to various audiences

  • Develop queries, reports, and reporting processes to improve the understanding of key University data.

  • Create and maintain reports, charts, HTML objects and business intelligence portals using WebFOCUS.

  • Interpret data results using a variety of analytical techniques ranging from simple data aggregation to more complex data mining

  • Creates ad-hoc internal/external reports for stakeholders.

  • Responsible for improving data and process flows.

  • Meets and coordinates with the Institutional Research team to ensure optimization of systems.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications*

  • Minimum 5 years experience in an Institutional Research environment.

  • Experience working with large relational database management systems.

  • Bachelor’s degree required.

  • Experience with Excel, Access, SPSS and other similar analysis and reporting software.

  • Extensive experience working in an Ellucian environment (preferably Banner).

  • Extensive experience with SQL, WebFocus, and Tableau

Desired Qualifications*

  • Master's degree preferred.
