Job Summary

We are seeking dedicated Covid-19 Case Investigators for the Ann Arbor campus to assist in our efforts to limit the spread of Covid-19. In this role, duties will be assigned by EHS Covid Managers on a daily basis and will include reaching out to interview U-M students and employees who have tested positive for the SARS-Coronavirus. The interviews will be conducted remotely by telephone and computer to obtain symptom information, identify close contacts and provide instructions for isolation. It will be necessary to follow all scripts, policies and procedures of local agencies regarding confidentiality and the handling of personally identifiable information (PII) and personal health information (PHI). All communication is considered highly confidential, is carried out in a professional and empathetic manner maintaining emotional and cultural awareness.

This position is expected to be conducted 100% remotely; however, there may be limited occasions for on-site work on the Ann Arbor campus.

Required Qualifications*

  • Ability to pass assigned Contact Tracing Training;
  • Associate degree; Nursing, Public Health or other related medical education;
  • Must demonstrate a basic understanding of CDC (Centers for Disease Control) Covid-19 information;
  • Strong communication, organizational, and critical thinking skills; 
  • Able to communicate appropriately and effectively with a culturally diverse community; 
  • Sound judgment and have attention to detail; 
  • Experience conducting telephone-based or in-person interviews; 
  • Ability to effectively communicate with coworkers,students, and staff;
  • Proficiency in basic computing and ability to access and navigate various databases and software programs following training;  
  • Ability to show patience and empathy, and be nonjudgmental towards distressed individuals; 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to interact professionally with people;  
  • Must have stable WIFI / Internet connectivity from working area; 
  • Computer (Windows 10 or Mac with Apple x10.13 and antivirus protection) and a dedicated phone line or cell phone, and proficiency in their use.

Educational Requirements:

  • Associate’s degree or higher in a medical related field;
  • Health-related professional experience/training in public health, nursing or social work.

Work Schedule

Part time, temporary (20-40 hours per week) with a variable schedule based on university needs. Must be available for rotating weekend and evening work. Working hours would typically be between 12 pm and 8 pm; however, this can be flexible based upon availability and number of hours worked per week.

Please note that the starting rate for this position is $20 - $30/hour. However, a higher rate may be possible commensurate with experience.
