The office works to inspire, motivate, and support students through: leadership programs and curriculum, Fraternity & Sorority Life, student organizations, the student food pantry, first generation programs, new student programs and initiatives and much more.
The University of Michigan-Dearborn Office of Student Life is seeking an energetic, hardworking student who is proactive and takes initiative with their work to serve in the position of Student Assistant. As a paraprofessional member of the Student Life team, the Student Assistant for Leadership Programs will support the coordinator and peers with program planning, student leadership awards, building partnerships through outreach and engagement with faculty and staff, assisting with curriculum development for educational programming, and general research for various leadership initiatives. The role will provide the Student Assistant the opportunity to learn new skills and enhance existing ones, while supporting the office’s professional staff.
This position may also provide management/oversight for the Office of Student Life’s desk, phone and general operation.
The Leadership Programs Student Assistant will report to Coordinator for Fraternity & Sorority Life and the overall Student Life team, and can anticipate an average of 10-15 hours per week dedicated to key responsibilities during the fall and winter terms when class is in session.
Outreach – assist with tabling, emails, building relationships with students, faculty, staff and other outreach efforts as they arise.
Program and Event Planning – assisting with leadership program development and execution. This could include leadership series, leadership institutes, leadership awards, luncheons and more.
Support the planning of trainings, development, and team building efforts.
Support the OSL front desk, assisting all office clients, and serve as an initial contact for referral to appropriate campus resources.
Ensure office operations are running effectively, including monitoring inventory of supplies and keeping office space tidy.
Triage phone calls in a professional and friendly manner

Required qualifications: currently enrolled student at UM-Dearborn with a minimum GPA of 2.5 and an ability to keep information confidential, and a desire to learn.
Desired qualifications: Passion for leadership development, strong customer service, dependability, and communication; ability to work in a team, and to set priorities and remain organized.
