Job Summary

A postdoctoral fellowship position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Nadia R. Sutton at the University of Michigan. The proposed research opportunities will focus on vascular aging, particularly in vascular calcification, fibrosis, and physiology/hemodynamics. Candidate responsibilities include experimental design and execution, data analysis and interpretation and preparation of research papers, presentations and grants. The project will perform some work in murine models, cell culture, and will translate findings to humans. Many projects are collaborative and involve communication with other investigators, cores, and laboratories. Some experiments may require travel between the main medical campus and the north medical campus. University transit is available. The PI will provide focused and tailored mentoring to the candidate to ensure that candidate reaches their desired career goals.

Required Qualifications*

Ph.D. degree

Desired Qualifications*

  • A recent Ph.D. graduate with a strong background in molecular biology or a relevant discipline with at least one peer reviewed experimental/investigational paper in a journal (IF >5.0)
  • Hands-on research experience in a broad range of techniques primary cell isolation, in vitro cellular assays; experience with in vivo murine models is highly beneficial
  • Excellent communication, organizational and writing skills are a must
  • Eligibility for NIH training grants.
  • Prior experience with large data sets, bio-informatics, and statistics would be helpful.
  • A strong candidate will bring an additional skill set to complement existing lab resources.
  • A strong writing portfolio including examples of writing should be included or referenced in the application.
  • A track record of being independently motivated to see projects through to completion is necessary.
  • A strong teamwork ethic and ability to work well with and assist in training other trainees, including undergraduates, medical students, and other post-graduates.

Background Screening
