Job Summary

The Division of General Medicine in the Department of Internal Medicine is seeking a highly competent, motivated and organized individual to serve as a full-time Financial Senior Manager to lead its financial team. Reporting directly to the Division Administrator, candidates for this position are expected to exhibit strong organizational skills and demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively within a complex organization. The General Medicine administrative office is responsible for a wide range of services to support both clinical and research faculty appointed in the Division of General Medicine. Develops, interprets and implements highly complex financial/accounting concepts and advanced techniques for financial planning and control. Will provide expert advisory capability and interpretation on all levels of financial activity. Plans, coordinates and executes policy implementation applicable to the installation of improved financial operations. Provides specialized technical analysis to determine present and future financial performance. Directs the development and implementation of new concepts and techniques for financial information analysis.

Specific responsibilities to include, but not limited to:

  • Management of all division accounts.
  • Direct supervision of research administrators and accountant associate including evaluate the performance for annual reviews, resolve operating problems, address and resolve personnel actions, as well as process and track payroll.
  • Oversight of pre- and post-award administration.
  • Oversight of all procurement processes.
  • Assist in the development and preparation of annual department processes such as budget, P&L, and space survey.
  • Serve as the division effort specialist. Develop, monitor, and process effort changes for all UM and VA faculty and staff members including effort timelines and VA/UM MOU’s. This also includes the analysis of protected effort, clinical time, grant restrictions, sabbaticals, etc.
  • Lead the preparation and presentation of financial and research related reports to division leadership.
  • Create other ad hoc reports as requested by the division and department. 
  • Other administrative duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications*

Bachelor's degree in a financially related field with a minimum of 5-7 or more years of experience in financial management. Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills. Strong attention to detail with a demonstrated ability to set priorities and manage multiple tasks and competing deadlines. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Possesses the ability to work collegially and collaboratively in a team environment interacting effectively with faculty and peers. Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.

Desired Qualifications*

Experience with eResearch and Wolverine Access (MReports, Financials/Resources, HR Management, Business Objects, etc.). Experience in the pre- and post-award administration of federally-sponsored projects (especially NIH), and knowledge of ORSP procedures and operations.  Previous experience working with a variety of other departments with the University and/or outside (specifically the Ann Arbor VA Health System).
