Job Summary

This job opening is for a Temporary Float RN position within the Central Staffing Resource Department (CSR) and services Michigan Medicine hemodialysis units.

Wage: $55.00/hr. base rate

  • Evening Shift Differential is $5.00 per hour
  • Night Shift Differential is $ 3.00 per hour
  • Weekend Differential is $5.00 per hour
  • On Call is $6.00 per hour when on call is required by the hiring department

The AcuteHemodialysis Unit (7DS) is an 8 station unit, and hours of operation are 0600-0130, Monday - Saturday. 


Independently and completely performs focused assessment of dialysis patients to provide the most effective patient care.

Assess, monitor, report and manage significant changes in a patient's condition/status, including responses to medications and treatments.

Provide nursing care to patients including the administration of medications and treatments ordered and assist with interventional procedures.

Document patient care, including changes in patient's status.

Identify problems presented by patients and families and initiate appropriate interventions.

To provide nursing advice and consultation and act as a resource to other health care team members.

Individualizes communication based on the assessment of the patients and families.

Independently set up, prime, initiate, manage/monitor and terminate specialized renal therapies

Successful completion of all aspects of orientation

Required Qualifications*

  • Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Michigan
  • Three (3) or more years recent RN experience
  • Current AHA BLS Provider certification
  • Minimum two (2) years recent hemodialysis experience
  • Ability to pass the EKG/ telemetry exam with at least an 80%
  • Proficient computer skills, including health care documentation

Work Schedule

**Minimum commitment is 32 hours per 4 week scheduling block**  Additional hours can be discussed.

Shift/Hours: Day and Evening shifts are 10hrs in length
Location: University Hospital: Central Staffing Resources Specialty Cluster, Adult Hemodialysis

Nursing Information:

  • Expected to float to like units where competent and qualified in times of low census
  • Inability to work for (3) months consecutively leads to automatic termination from employment
  • No guarantee of work at any time. Shifts can and sometimes will be cancelled.


Additional Information

1). All CSR employees are required to attend an annual educational Blitz to complete required
UM mandatories and competencies (BCLS every 2 yrs., Cardiac Arrest and maintain all
other applicable certifications).
2). Temporary Float Nurses are expected to work all shifts requested unless no work is
available. It is the intention that all Temps will float to all units within the cluster specialty.

3). A Temporary Nurse should work 30 hours per 4-week schedule block. You may request three
(3), ten (10) hour shifts.
4.) Temporary Nurses in the CSR Clusters are NOT required to work weekends or holidays.
5). Temporary Nurses will participate in a newly designed, streamlined, onboarding/orientation
program. However, the progression of orientation will be dependent upon clinical
competency, staffing needs of the individual units, and the number of hours worked by the
Temporary RN.
