Responsibilities*

  • Perform blood refrigerator rounds in all hospitals.
  • Inspect blood components during rounds and determine acceptability of storage conditions.
  • Communicate with nursing staff about blood components stored in blood refrigerators.
  • Perform daily temperature checks in blood refrigerators.
  • Perform equipment maintenance tasks.
  • Stock and maintain laboratory supplies.
  • Receive samples, determine acceptability of labeling, create orders, and prepare requisitions for samples arriving to the Blood Bank.
  • Perform clerical duties as needed.
  • Assist with filing and storage of documents and records.  Prepare documents and records for scanning and review.
  • Perform manual billing charges.

Required Qualifications*

In order to be considered for this position the applicant must have met or will have met all the required qualifications prior to the start date of employment.

  • High school diploma. 
  • Must be able to walk 3 miles and lift 40 pounds with or without assistance. 
  • Good communication skills. 
  • Must be detail oriented.

Desired Qualifications*

2 or more years experience in a laboratory settings is desirable.  Knowledge off Microsoft Word and Excel as well as Outlook and other University computer systems highly desired.

Work Schedule

This full time, 40 hour position will be M, W and F 5:00 am to 1:00 pm and T, Th 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.  Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
