Our Medical Assistants in Oncology will be part of a team that deals with the diagnosis, and treatment of cancer. In this role you will be serving the adult patient population who are seeking consultation and/or examination prior to treatment. You will master the abilities to obtain vital signs as well as height and weight to help calculate drug dosages accurately. In addition to these skills, you will be responsible for: ensuring patients are efficiently moving through examination, consultation and treatment rooms; preparing, cleaning, and stocking patient and procedure rooms; obtaining and updating medication lists along with medical and surgical histories; performing EKGs, pulse oximeters, and glucometers; tracking external labs; assisting in procedures such as flexible sigmoidoscopies, cystoscopies, laryngoscopes, and administrative tasks such as calling patients for inside and outside facilities, entering notes into MiChart, and faxing, copying, printing and scanning patient records. This role services medical oncology, surgical oncology and radiation oncology. Cross training to other areas, such as the infusion area and ADTU will occur as needed.
- We do require that you have a high school diploma or GED.
- 0-1 years of experience.
- You are required to have either graduated from a Medical Assistant program OR have an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Some office experience is necessary.
- Knowledge of basic medical terminology.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to work well within a team setting.
- Ability to communicate effectively including demonstrated active listening, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Computer technology skills.
- 1 - 3 years of experience.
- Additional formal education in a health care field is desired.
- Certification as an MA.
- Experience working within a large, complex, healthcare setting.
- Familiarity with Epic/MiChart.
- Knowledge of University policies & procedures.
Based on qualifications and department need, this position can be filled as a Medical Assistant or Medical Assistant Associate.
Patient care hours in the oncology suite are currently 7:00 AM – 6:00 PM Monday through Friday. There is possibility for future operations into later hours during the week or for Saturdays. We are flexible in scheduling, and request that you are also flexible in working various shifts. This is a full-time position working 40 hours per week.
This position may be underfilled at a lower classification depending on the qualifications of the selected candidate.
Job requires moderate standing and walking, as well as lifting, positioning, pushing, and/or transferring patients.
As part of the orientation training process, your training may be held at multiple locations during your first few months of the employment.
