Job Summary

We are looking for a full-time data scientist to support ongoing clinical research in acute respiratory disease and other critical illness syndromes. You will report directly to the PI, and join a team of clinical research physicians, bioinformaticians, and computer scientists working on ongoing single and multi-center clinical studies and machine-learning research projects in critical care and acute lung diseases.

Responsibilities*

  • Develop computer programs that interface with enterprise data resources to ensure the extraction, processing, and analysis of complex healthcare data.
  • With some autonomy, research and develop statistical and machine-learning models for analyzing healthcare data with the goal of building algorithms to support clinical research and uncover new insights into human disease
  • Create documentation of computer programs and models
  • Support PhD students and other trainees using these data resources for ongoing projects.
  • Participate in diverse research meetings

Required Qualifications*

Intermediate Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, a related field or equivalent experience. 3+ years systems analysis/programming activities in a business environment.
  • Fluency in python or R for data management and data analysis
  • Fluency in SQL for database development and manipulation

Associate Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, a related field or equivalent experience. 1+ years systems analysis/programming activities in a business environment.
  • Fluency in python or R for data management and data analysis
  • Fluency in SQL for database development and manipulation

Desired Qualifications*

Completion of a master’s degree in bioinformatics, clinical informatics, information, statistics, computer science, or related fields by the start date

Knowledge of basic and advanced statistical techniques and concepts (probability theory, generalized linear models, statistical hypothesis testing, etc.)

Familiarity using imagine data and/or unstructured data (e.g. text data)

Experience working in Linux/Unix environments for research computing

This position may be underfilled at a lower classification depending on the qualifications of the selected candidate.

Additional Information

This is a one year term limited postion with the possibility of extension. Extension is based on the availability of funding and performance.

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.  Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act.
