Job Summary

Ensure that the content, quality, processes, and procedures for our organization’s specialized testing products and services meet or exceed expectations, and that our organization’s position as a leading provider of English language assessments and services is enhanced.


  • Draw upon professional knowledge to work independently as expert reviewer of content for certain item types/test programs and perform expert reviews of test forms in development
  • Contribute to the development of technical documentation for test products, including but not limited to: item specifications, item writer guidelines, and speaking/writing rater training materials
  • Draw upon academic training and teaching/assessment experience to contribute to the development of additional materials, including but not limited to: internal and external training documentation and tutorials, teacher support materials, and practice tests/test preparation materials
  • Contribute to the development of new test instruments and educational materials as well as revision of existing test program materials
  • Lead construction of tests, adhering to complex technical specifications, for all test programs
  • Other contributions commensurate with level and experience (e.g. service on committees, coordination with external consultants, contributions to research and innovation, participation in staff training, etc.)

Required Qualifications*

  • Master’s degree in Applied Linguistics, Education, or related field, or equivalent experience
  • C2-level English ability
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Must be able to work both independently and as a member of a team
  • Must have effective time management skills with the ability to meet deadlines
  • Data entry capability and effective data organization skills
  • Basic office IT products and the ability to learn additional programs as needed
  • Must be able to learn and understand Michigan Language Assessment business goals and objectives, and effectively apply them to the job
  • 2+ years’ experience with language teaching
  • Experience in a busy office environment

  • Experience in test development and/or speaking and writing assessment
  • Experience with educational technologies
  • Experience in K-12 contexts
  • Ability to use programming languages such as R
