Job Summary

Reports to: Associate Director, Reporting & Information Analysis, Development Services and Strategic Solutions, Office of University Development

Supervises: No direct reports

As the Business Intelligence Analyst, you will work with the U-M Development Community to assist and support the comprehensive fundraising programs of the University of Michigan. You will support the creation, maintenance and distribution of ad hoc reports and dashboards for the Development community.

You will work in an environment dedicated to advancing the mission of the Office of University Development (OUD) and the University. You will build positive and meaningful relationships with co-workers and customers.

As a member of the Reporting and Information Analysis team, you will ensure the health of the data in the Donor and Alumni Relationship Tool (DART) used by the U-M Development Community.

Responsibilities*

60% Operational – Team

  • Develop, review, modify, test, document and implement queries and data visualizations in SQL Server, Oracle, Business Objects, DART Query tool and Tableau to extract data and support reporting requests. Analyze new tools to complete requests if necessary.

  • Work competently at most technical levels of reporting including analysis of business and user needs, documenting requirements, and revising existing report logic difficulties. Convert information to/from a wide variety of formats.

30% Operational - Customer Support

  • Evaluate requests to determine best method for data update or retrieval.

  • Provide ad hoc data updates and information retrieval, and answer customer questions from within a customer queue using a variety of technical query writing or system tools, reports or programs.

  • Provide analytical and technical consulting to a variety of end-users, technical staff and vendors; resolution of complex data or application problems.

5% Operational - Program Support

  • Support ongoing development of new processes and policies including materials and documentation that help educate the Development Community on the standards and procedures of the Reporting and Information Analysis team.

  • Participate in DART upgrade testing.

  • Follow established guidelines to maintain the integrity of the DART system, and demonstrate initiative to generate data improvements.

5% General/Other

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications*

  • A bachelor's degree in Information Technology or related field OR 1 or more years of related experience working with information systems (MS Access, SQL Server, MySQL or Oracle databases).

  • Experience with Microsoft Office and Google products including Word, Excel, Access, Google Mail, Docs, and Spreadsheets.

  • Strong client orientation and experience translating technical concepts and information to a wide range of users.

  • Demonstrated technical aptitude, technical curiosity and creative problem solving skills; the ability to solve business problems with technical solutions that save customers time and effort.

  • Must be committed to maintaining a professional and positive workplace and team-oriented environment.

Desired Qualifications*

  • Knowledge of development, fundraising, and community service as recommended by related umbrella organizations such as CASE.

  • A commitment to utilizing excellent customer service skills. Ability to anticipate needs in advance and plan accordingly.

  • Familiarity with Enterprise/CRM tools.

  • Working knowledge of SQL, Microsoft SQL, Visual Basic.

  • Working knowledge of Tableau or other visualization programs.

  • Willingness to expand technical knowledge, both personal and team wide.

  • Experience with business process evaluation, design and re-design.

  • Ability to transfer knowledge, train, and explain related concepts to various audiences.
