Manages, plans and leads the operational, administrative, budgetary and personnel activities of Environmental Services to ensure consistent, efficient and cost effective flow of services throughout Michigan Medicine.

  • Responsible to monitor, analyze and manage the Environmental Services to ensure policies and procedures are being followed.
  • Responsible for the development of all Environmental Services related activities.
  • Responsible for ensuring employee training and compliance protocols while meeting customer service needs.
  • Management duties include interviewing, selecting and training of employees, planning and directing their work; appraising their productivity and efficiency for the purpose of recommending promotions or other changes in their status; handling their complaints and grievances and disciplining them when necessary.
  • Management responsibilities also include the authority to hire, fire, or promote assigned employees or make recommendations that are given particular weight.

Required Qualifications*

  • Bachelor’s Degree + 5 years of leading a team of 15 or more team members
  • 5 years’ or more experience working in a health care union environment.
  • Combination of at least 5 years’ experience in a health care environment, hospitality, or military, with at least 3 consecutive years in the past 5 years.
  • Experience in a large, academic healthcare system with 500+ beds.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated history of developing and unitizing work schedules.
  • Demonstrated history of improving customer/patient satisfaction.
  • Experience with healthcare computer systems such as Epic, MPathways, and/or PeopleSoft.
  • At least one professional certification in Healthcare, Environmental Services, Hospitality, et. or to have or obtain certification within the first year. 

Desired Qualifications*

  • Considerable experience in managing Environmental Services, Bed Tracking, Facilities Management, Quality Assurance Program or related functions in a large hospital and health care environment.
  • A demonstrated record of successful support to health care operations, including exceptional customer services and quality improvement skills.
  • Thorough knowledge of JCAHO, OSHA and other regulartory agency requirements. 

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.  Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
