Job Summary

Experience+ (EXP+) is a new campus-wide initiative that endeavors to connect students to opportunities across campus, to encourage learning experiences and reflection, and to promote academic, personal, and professional competencies. As part of this, the EXP+ is accepting applications for virtual 7-12th grade tutors for the summer 2021 semester.  Tutors serve as engaging, knowledgeable, and fun academic coaches who support and encourage student success.  Tutors will meet virtually on a weekly basis with teenage family members of UM-Dearborn faculty and staff in 7th-12th grades who have expressed an interest in enhancing their skills in subjects such as Algebra, Geometry, Pre-Calculus, Biology, Language Arts, Chinese, and Arabic.


The 3 selected candidates will work with the EXP+ team in planning and executing this pilot program aimed at supporting student success for the teenage children of UM-Dearborn faculty and staff.   Tutors will work 10 hours per week with students who are seeking coaching in subjects that are compatible with the tutor’s area of expertise.  Students will connect with tutors through online registration for selection and scheduling.

Required Qualifications*

  • Must be a current UM-Dearborn undergraduate or graduate student.

  • Overall GPA of 3.0 or higher.

  • Previous experience in coaching, mentoring, or tutoring and the ability to engage and motivate students in grades 7-12 in one or more of the subjects listed above. 

  • Strong interpersonal communication skills and ability to work collaboratively.

  • Strong knowledge of subject area(s).

  • Applicants must have no history of academic integrity or student conduct violations.

  • Familiarity with using Zoom.

Desired Qualifications*

Preference will be given to Education students specializing in Secondary Education. In addition, preference will be given to all undergraduate and graduate students in all majors who have participated in campus or off-campus volunteer activities, or student-centered campus jobs such as orientation leader, tutor, or SI leader.

Work Schedule

Tutors will work 10 hours per week from 6/21-8/27.  Weekly hours will be flexible in order to adjust to the schedules of students and tutors. 

A mandatory paid training will take place during the week of June 14-18, with the exact times to be determined.
