This job opening is for two Unit-Based Temporary RN positions for HomeMed Administration. This position may also cover temporary hours at Michigan Visiting Nurses.
* Please note that these positions do not qualify for Michigan Medicine benefits and specific terms and conditions of employment are negotiated at the department level. These positions are not covered under the collective bargaining agreement between U-M and the Michigan Nurses Association and U-M Professional Nurse Council union.
* Current RN employees working in a regular position covered under the collective bargaining agreement are not eligible to hold an additional Unit-Based Temporary RN position .

- Complete first dose follow-up phone calls
- Answer patient calls regarding IV administration, equipment and monitoring
- Patient education
- Liaison with visiting nurse agencies across the state to coordinate care and follow up on patient issues
- Liaison with hospital Case Management to transition patients from hospital to home
- Assess laboratory results as needed
- Coordinate home IV care with pharmacists, nurses, pharmacy techs and dietitians

Current licensure to practice nursing in the State of Michigan.
Two (2) or more years of adult and/or medical/surgical nursing experience within the last 5 years.
Two years of recent clinical experience that demonstrates effective coordination of clinical care for a broad range of patients.
Ability to demonstrate excellent problem solving and triage skills
Ability to work independently in a multidisciplinary, fast paced environment as demonstrated by interview, references and performance evaluation.
Direct experiences with all types of vascular access devices, wound care, oxygen therapies.
In-depth recent experience in patient education (i.e.: self care, disease state management).
Excellent communication and customer service skills
Demonstrated knowledge of the quality improvement process
Ability to get from point A to point B throughout the work day as assigned

Home Infusion, DME and \or home care experience as a RN within the last 2 years.
Experience teaching and developing patient education material/policies and procedures for home infusion and equipment techniques.
Two (2) or more years adult and pediatric medical/surgical nursing experience.
Successful completion of chemotherapy course.
Certification in Infusion Therapy, Nutrition Support or Wound Care
Computer skills, i.e. Microsoft Word.
Experience with chart audits.

UNIT-BASED TEMPORARY NURSE GUIDELINES
* Unit-based temporary employee working three or more shifts per scheduling period will be scheduled to work a minimum of two weekend shifts per scheduling period (8 hours = 1 shift). The contractual definition of a weekend applies for temporary employees.
* Unit-based temporary nurses who preschedule two or fewer shifts per scheduling period do not
have to meet the weekend requirements.
* Each unit-based temporary nurse will be expected to work a portion of scheduled shifts on off shifts (recommended guide: 25%).
* Each unit-based temporary nurse will be scheduled to work the number of shifts during holiday weeks that reflect his/her normal scheduling pattern. Temporary nurses should be scheduled to work shifts during three out of the six holiday weeks and one of these weeks should be Christmas or New Year's week. (A week is defined as Sunday through Saturday during which the holiday falls).
* Unit-based temporary nurses are to be scheduled after all regular staff are scheduled per contract language.
* Managers may establish additional guidelines based upon individual unit scheduling requirements

OCCUPATIONAL HAZARD INFORMATION:
All clinical and delivery staff carry out assignments in patient's homes, health care institutions and HCS offices.
Drives personal automobile to these various work site locations in all weather conditions on a regular basis.
