About the experience:
As a paraprofessional member of the Student Life team, the Civic Engagement Student Assistant will help with logistics, program planning, and support for our civic engagement initiatives, which empower students to create change in their communities. The Civic Engagement Student Assistant will be part of the Office Management Team, which supports office operations, programs and initiatives, as well as, marketing and advertising processes. The role will provide an opportunity to learn new skills and enhance existing ones, while supporting the office’s professional staff.
This position may also provide management/oversight for the Office of Student Life’s desk, phone, and general operation.
The Civic Engagement Student Assistant will report to the Coordinator of Civic Engagement and the overall Student Life team, and can anticipate an average of 6-8 hours per week during the spring and summer, and 10-12 hours per week in the fall and winter.
Assist with tabling; emails; building relationships with students, faculty, and staff; and other outreach efforts as they arise
In collaboration with OSL staff, support conceptualizing, planning, and executing programming and events. This could include programming related to democratic engagement, the Student Food Pantry, alternative breaks, service-learning, and volunteer opportunities.
Support coalition building among academic, departmental, and community partners
Liaise with on campus and off campus partners
Assist with Student Food Pantry operations
Work with OSL staff to develop and/or implement social media graphics and engagement posts to increase awareness of resources, programs, and events
Provide guidance to fellow students interested in civic and community engagement
Assist Student Life professional staff with programming through brainstorming, proposing ideas, and supporting program facilitation
Overseeing in-Office creative projects, such as Office comfort and work environment, including accessibility and inclusivity of needs
Other opportunities as assigned/needed
