In the Office of Student Life at the University of Michigan-Dearborn, New Student Engagement focuses on the development, facilitation, and oversight of all new student engagement programs for entering first year and transfer students, as well as, parent and family outreach. We are passionate about creating an inclusive campus community for all new students and their families. We provide opportunities for new students to begin building relationships with faculty, staff, current students and their new classmates. We provide resources from day one, which empower students to make the most of their time at UM-Dearborn and prepare them for academic, personal, and professional success.
The Student Life Coordinator for New Student Engagement is seeking 3 paraprofessionals to assist with the various programmatic areas: CRUISE and MODEL T Programs, Parent & Family Outreach and programming, and the Engaged Scholar Community. The paraprofessional(s) will have the opportunity to develop skills in facilitation, budgeting, and program management.

About the experience:
The paraprofessional(s) will report to the Student Life Coordinator for New Student Engagement, who will serve as a supervisor and mentor to explore professional goals and identify projects that will support achieving these goals. The paraprofessional(s) will also serve as a part of the overall Student Life team and will have the opportunity to collaborate and work with all of our talented professional and paraprofessional staff.
Paraprofessionals can anticipate an average of 8-10 hours per week dedicated to key responsibilities during the Fall and Winter terms when class is in session, with possible opportunities for work throughout the summer months. The position appointment will begin prior to the start of the Fall term and run for the duration of the academic year.
The New Student Engagement paraprofessional(s) will support the implementation and execution of programming and outreach. As a representative of UM-Dearborn, the New Student Engagement paraprofessional(s) will work to enhance the student experience by promoting learning and development through engagement and fostering community among students. Specifically, duties related to the position may include, but are not limited to:
CRUISE: Connecting to Resources, University Involvement, and Successful Experiences or CRUISE is an opportunity for first-year students to learn more about University life at UM-Dearborn. It is an experience that aims to connect, support, and empower new students.
Organize and manage all components of the CRUISE program, including developing curriculum, recruiting participants, recruiting and training facilitators, and overseeing advertising and marketing efforts
MODEL (T): Making Opportunities for Developmental Experiences and Learning Together or MODEL T is an opportunity for incoming transfer students to learn more about University life at UM-Dearborn. It is a virtual experience that aims to connect, support, and empower transfer students.
Organize and manage all components of the MODEL T program, including developing curriculum, recruiting participants, recruiting and training facilitators, and overseeing advertising and marketing efforts
Engaged Scholar Community: The Scholar Community at the University of Michigan-Dearborn is a learning community for the highest achieving students from the state's most economically disadvantaged high schools. Scholars are devoted to academic excellence, campus engagement, and metropolitan impact. Scholars embody perseverance, achievement and engagement.
Develop and distribute information regarding Scholarship Terms & Conditions
Advise the Leadership Advisory Board (LAB); a board of students who plan events and activities related to academic excellence, metropolitan impact, fundraising and recognition, and health & wellness
Develop an incentive program to increase student involvement in events and activities for the 21/22 academic year
Serve as a liaison between the Office of Student Life and the Talent Gateway
New Student Engagement Program Assistant
Serve as the OSL paraprofessional representative for campus traditions programming
Oversee New Student Engagement open houses and workshops, including Go Blue Orientation programming
Lead strategic brainstorming sessions and development of new student programs, resources, and services
Provide support with the University’s Community Read initiative
Serve as a liaison between the new student engagement team and other functional areas within OSL
Model a positive attitude and growth mindset when portraying UM-Dearborn’s programs, policies & procedures
Assist with setup and administrative tasks as needed
