Job Summary

The University of Michigan Wolverine Pathways was established to increase the high school graduation rate, college acceptance and retention rates of academically promising scholars. The District Facilitator Assistant will provide exemplary service to the Ann Arbor main office and districts of Detroit, Ypsilanti and/or Southfield by supporting the District Facilitator(s), educational staff, scholars, and parents during sessions at the sites and in the office.

Program Coordinator Assistants will work 16-24 hours.

Compensation: $16/hour

Mandatory Summer 2021 Session Dates

June 21- August 22, 2021

Responsibilities*

  • Coordinate a variety of projects, functions, and program components (e.g. meetings, in-service events, etc.) related to our 40 + summer academic camps for rising 9th, 10th, and 11th graders.
  • Maintain a wide variety of manual and electronic documents, files, and records (e.g. student data, school information, etc.), providing up-to-date information and historical reference in accordance with established program guidelines and legal requirements
  • Check and respond to/send professional and appropriate email correspondence on a regular basis to camp leads, parents, and scholars on behalf of WP.
  • Regularly check in with scholars and families around their academics and college applications
  • Monitor scholar academics, attendance, and citizenship
  • Participate in a variety of meetings, workshops, and trainings for the purpose of providing or receiving information, maintaining community and parent engagement, and supporting the needs of the scholars
  • Research a variety of topics (e.g. current practices, policies, education codes, etc.) in order to provide information and recommendations
  • Schedule a wide variety of activities (e.g. appointments, meetings, workshops, facility usage, etc.) for the program
  • Work under limited supervision; follow standardized practices and methods; and lead, guide, and coordinate others
  • Input data into computer systems including, but not limited to Microsoft Excel, Google Sheets, and database applications
  • Assist in recording attendance of hundreds of students, while upholding and enforcing the attendance policy
  • Organize documents both physically and virtually for efficiency
  • Collaborate with other staff to troubleshoot a variety of situations, to include: issues with building facilities, scholars, staff, parents, and technology
  • Assist with event planning
  • Perform other related duties as assigned to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the program

  • Some experience with administration/management
  • Experience with college advising and college application support
  • Experience with high school students and family outreach
  • Excellent organizational skills and experience managing large data sets
  • Experience managing multiple projects
  • Must believe in the transformative power of education
  • Has a keen interest in social equity and justice
  • Some experience with student or group facilitation
  • Desire to be an advocate for the development of students
  • Excellent communication and problem solving skills
  • Excellent driving record
  • Specific ability-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: communicating with diverse groups; displaying tact and courtesy; maintaining confidentiality; setting priorities; being attentive to detail; establishing and maintaining effective working relationships; working as part of a team; and working with frequent interruptions

  • Be a graduate-level college student or have a degree in a relevant subject area
