Job Summary

Highly motivated individual sought for a Research Laboratory Specialist Associate position in the Department of Biomedical Engineering (BME) at the University of Michigan. The position is with the Laboratory of Integrated Brain Imaging (https://libi.engin.umich.edu). The primary responsibility is to prepare rats and mice for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) using a 7 Tesla MRI system in the Engineering Preclinical Imaging Center (https://epic.bme.umich.edu). The selected candidate will work closely with Dr. Zhongming Liu on NIH-funded projects that use MRI to image the brain, the stomach, and their interactions.  Contact: zmliu@umich.edu

**This is a one year term-limited position with the possibility of extension based upon need and funding.

Responsibilities*

  • Perform routine care and handling of rats and mice
  • Perform behavioral training or testing for rats and mice
  • Perform animal preparation for magnetic resonance imaging or electrophysiology
  • Perform animal surgery and post-surgical care
  • Facilitate animal research by the faculty, students, and postdocs in the lab

Required Qualifications*

  • Bachelor's degree in a biological, engineering, or veterinary science
  • Exceptional work ethic
  • Good communication skills
  • At least two years of experience with animal handling and care
  • Ideally but not necessarily, prior experience with
    • animal surgery
    • animal electrophysiology (neurophysiology, gastroenterology)
    • animal behavioral experiments
