Job Summary

As a key member of the MNI administrative team, this position will work closely with MNI leadership and our researchers to support organization strategies and objectives.


Plan and coordinate MNI strategic communications and materials. Prepare and disseminate publicity and good will information concerning Michigan Neuroscience Institute (MNI) initiatives to key stakeholders. Work with Michigan Medicine Public Relations to secure external media coverage. Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with communication organizations on campus.

Develop and manage all MNI digital media content including website content, e-newsletters, and social media. Specifically:
Develop website content, including writing for news reel, page additions, and deletions for Institute developments. Update website with changing information including new research studies, staff changes, programs, event dates, and more on a continuous basis.
Build e-newsletters, select and prioritize content, write articles, manage deadlines, organize content and visuals using communication and graphic design principles, facilitate reviews from larger team, schedule deploys, and review success metrics.  
Work with Michigan Medicine and UM social media teams to deploy MNI content through appropriate channels.

Manage MNI events including organization and promotion of seminar series and symposia and support of member engagement. Tasks may consist of venue booking, speaker selection and scheduling, promotional tactics, event set-up and tear-down, evaluation and reporting, and AV troubleshooting. Continually adjust and build upon seminars to ensure MNI missions are reflected.

Other responsibilities as needed.

Required Qualifications*

  • B.A Communications, journalism or a related field
  • 2-5 years professional experience.

Desired Qualifications*

The ideal candidate would have 3-5 years of experience in a communications role as well as experience with Drupal - or other web CMS, Adobe Creative Suite, and Email marketing systems.

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.  Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act.
