The English Department at the University of Michigan is one of the top ranked English Departments in the nation and the Undergraduate Curriculum Coordinator serves as a member of our Undergraduate Office team.

This position is responsible for implementing the curriculum on a term-by-term basis, working closely with the Undergraduate Director and Undergraduate Administrator.  This position has high level of contact with faculty and students.

Job duties include but are not limited to the following:

Curriculum Planning & Implementation: 

  • Time Schedule – creating & updating the time schedule in MPathways.
  • Room Scheduling (special needs, etc.)
  • Manage English Department classrooms & scheduling
  • Work with UG Dir. on faculty teaching assignments
  • Coordinate “meet together” & “cross-listed” courses with other units
  • Process course approvals (CARFS)
  • Manage course descriptions
  • Liaison with Registrar’s Office, Scheduling, Advising, Records Office
  • Market courses across campus

Provide Primary Support to the English Honors Program:

  • Work closely with the Honors Director
  • Oversee application process & correspondence
  • Assist with planning Honors Symposium & pre-commencement activities
  • Assist in coordination & event planning for Honors Program Distinguished Speaker
  • Coordinate and maintain files & information

Provide Primary Support to the Undergraduate Creative Writing Program:

  • Work closely with UG Creative Writing Director
  • Manage/oversee declaration and course selection process
  • Manage/oversee minor email groups

Instructor support:

  • Order E&E evaluations
  • Manage Grade Reports
  • Collect & post course descriptions
  • Process course permissions, room changes, manage final exam information, troubleshoot textbook ordering
  • Respond to inquiries & needs of faculty

Student services support:

  • Provide support to the Undergraduate English Association (UEA)
  • Assist with planning UG pre-commencement activities
  • Process student declarations
  • Plan & promote events for UG Office
  • Process UG financial awards
  • Perform ad hoc advising

Committee work:

  • Work on ad hoc committee at department & college level

Required Qualifications*

  • Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.   
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills. 
  • Demonstrated customer service skills. 
  • Reasonable knowledge of University policies, rules and administrative procedures relating to student affairs. 
  • Ability to relate to a diverse group of faculty, staff and students. 
  • Ability to work both independently and in teams.
  • Ability to be flexible in dealing with a changing environment and be willing to learn new skills and take on new projects. 
  • Strong organization skills and highly attentive to accuracy and detail. 
  • Excellent computer skills.

Desired Qualifications*

3-5 years of work experience in student services, curriculum management, or support to instructors.  Knowledge of University policies and procedures relating to student services.  Experience with MPathways Student Administration module. 

Additional Information

The salary range for this position is $36,300 to $45,300.  Please note a higher salary may be offered based on equity and the selected candidate’s experience.
