The Clinical Trials Support Office (CTSO) is part of Michigan Medicine’s strategic research initiative working towards improving clinical care, value, and health outcomes by successfully executing a diverse portfolio of high-quality clinical research. The CTSO provides the organizational structure of local service units, central infrastructure, and governance oversight. Within the CTSO, Clinical Trials Support Units (CTSUs) aligned by research foci, are trans-departmental and provide comprehensive pre- and post-award support to study teams, offering high-quality, efficient service in support of a wide variety of clinical research.
The CTSO helps life-changing research happen. The science we support is not only interesting, but it also has the very real potential to positively impact patients and their families. We are looking for a candidate who embraces their supporting role in pushing these scientific advancements forward. The CTSO is a relatively new organizational model. You’ll have the flexibility to impact the entire team as our unit expands its mission to support clinical research. Creative problem-solving skills are strongly encouraged.
Like many administrative units across U-M, the CTSO is currently operating under a virtual work model for administrative staff. This position would currently be a work from home position and is likely to require little in-person activity in the future.
The Research Administration Assistant position is entry level in the new Research Administration career pathway, which provides clear guidance on growing your career with our team. Experience with finance, medical billing, coordination, and/or general administrative activities would be ideal. This position has potential to support any one of our Clinical Trials Support Units.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Scheduling meetings with our research teams (i.e. study planning meetings, quarterly finance meetings).
- Running reports as needed to assist colleagues with general activities and in preparing for meetings.
- Participating in post-award financial reconciliation of research projects. Tasks may include patient billing reconciliation, approval of human subjects incentive payments, travel reimbursements, and sponsor invoicing.
- Entering data as requested in our Clinical Trials Management System, OnCore.
- Acting as a general contact and support person for our CTSU teams.
- Associate degree or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
- Knowledge of administrative procedures and systems with the ability to manage files and records and follow unit specific procedures.
- Ability to create basic reports, documents, presentations and spreadsheets using standard software.
- Math skills including simple addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
- Solid written, verbal and electronic communication skills demonstrating the ability to prepare outlines, reports, letters and other supplemental materials in a clear and concise manner.
- Ability to positively project the department internally and externally.
Previous administrative, financial, medical billing or study coordinator experience.
Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.
