The Pancreatobiliary Biobanks within the Division of Hematology/Oncology and Cancer Center has an opening for a Research Laboratory Technician Associate. We are seeking an energetic, highly motivated individual to join our team. The successful candidate is expected to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. The candidate will work as part of a team working to collect biological samples from pancreatic and biliary tract cancer patients for use in multiple research projects within the university. The candidate will work in many parts of the hospital including the cancer center, medical procedures unit, surgery, interventional radiology, and oncology clinics. This position will include daily exposure to patients, medical procedures, and biological samples (blood and tissue). Clinical data associated with these samples will also be collected. The individual will perform these diverse duties as a support to a team of researchers focused on pancreatic and biliary tract cancers. Hours will vary based on when samples need to be managed, but some early morning or later evenings may be required (on average one early morning and one late evening each week, with heavier work loads falling Monday-Wednesday).

Support the collection, deidentification of, delivery, and collection of tracking information on biological samples from cancer patients in the hospital. Work with MiChart, nurses, proceduralists, multiple labs, and patient-facing administrative employees to ensure the proper collection and handling of samples. May manage frozen samples and freezers as necessary.
Under supervision, collect data from cancer patients chart and organize into established databases.
Process blood and tissue samples in the lab. Perform laboratory experiments, including but not limited to western blots, and cell and organoid culture experiments in a supervised capacity. Participation in regular lab/biobank meetings and discussions is expected. Must work effectively in a team setting or autonomously, communicate effectively, and keep clear precise records. Other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor's degree in science, medical, or public health field
- 1-2 years experience working with tissue and/or blood in a research environment is preferred
- Experience in a clinical environment
- Experience with Microsoft Excel
- Experience with data management
