Job Summary

HITS is looking for a Clinical Business Analyst with a Clinical Laboratory Scientist background to support the Epic Orders team. Primary responsibilities include supporting and maintaining the Epic Genomics module, Bugsy Infection Prevention module and Laboratory orders and results for the MiChart system. This analyst will provide support to all MiChart users who use the system for laboratory related workflows or patient genomic indicators. They will work with our Pathology Department to provide excellent customer service for our ancillary partner. They will work with Business intelligence report writers who need assistance interpreting clinical laboratory data, which relies on an understanding of the Chronicles database and understanding of how the data is reported from our Laboratory Information System. This analyst will be a resource for all other HITS teams, particularly those within the CRC division, for interpretation and technical knowledge of the highly complex laboratory data that exists in MiChart.

Responsibilities*

The Clinical Business Analyst is responsible for the following tasks:

  • Implement, build, maintain, and optimize the Epic MiChart application. They will be primarily involved with Pathology-related build and workflows and will work closely with clinical leaders to translate Pathology needs into EMR functionality.
  • Implementing the Epic Genomics module is an integral aspect of this position and includes design, build, test, and optimization support for that application.
  • Maintain the Bugsy application including the institutionally required state and national reporting.
  • Work with U-M business community/clinical staff to ensure the system meets the organization's needs.
  • With support, create and define system scope and goals through research and fact-finding to develop or modify complex information systems.
  • Continue to maintain and enhance Epic software.
  • Prioritize and implement requested changes to the system.
  • Coordinate, review and test each new release
  • Communicate with Epic representatives.
  • Participate in training and work with end-users.
  • Troubleshoot problems and questions from end-users.
  • Work with report writers to ensure that the application has the necessary reports.

Required Qualifications*

Requirements for Senior position:

  • BA/BS degree or better and 5+ years relevant experience in Clinical Lab, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Certification or relevant experience in Epic applications.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform business/workflow analysis, document requirements, create scope documents, and standardize operating procedures.
  • Organize the investigation and resolution of development and project issues.
  • Effective written, verbal, and interpersonal skills.
  • Working knowledge of communication/collaboration tools, including spreadsheets, presentation, and word processing software.
  • Understanding of LEAN principals.
  • Share in rotating on call responsibility, including evenings and weekends.

Requirements for Intermediate position: 

  • BA/BS degree or better and 3-5 years of relevant experience in Clinical Lab, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Prior experience in Laboratory Information System support and/or lab test build.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform business/workflow analysis, document requirements, create scope documents, and standardize operating procedures.
  • Organize investigation and resolution of development and project issues.
  • Effective written, verbal, and interpersonal skills.
  • Working knowledge of communication/collaboration tools, including spreadsheets, presentation, and word processing software.
  • Understanding of LEAN principals.
  • Share in rotating on call responsibility, including evenings and weekends.

Desired Qualifications*

  • Experience and certification in any Epic applications, particularly: Orders, Genomics, Bugsy
  • Clinical Laboratory experience
  • Project management experience
